Default Pinto to VW Transaxle Question

Hi, I am new to the Formula group but are building a mid 70's car with a Pinto 2.0L. My question is what flywheel do you use if you are running a VW transaxle case. The VW flywheel was 200mm where the Pinto is 215mm. The rules state "flywheel shall be a standard component or the approved alternate Elite-001". When they say a standard component, I guess that is a standard Ford component, not a standard VW component. I see adapters available but they use a VW flywheel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Graham.

You will need something like this:

Yea, I looked at those but would that flywheel be legal. I won't be running National events, just club racing.

    Thanks for the help.
    Cheers, Graham.

After further review, I think the Esslinger adapter keeps the VW transaxle in the original VW upright position (a la FM). In a formula car you need to flip it upside down (bottom up). The Hewland piece is probably the right fit for what you are trying to do.

The Hewland piece bolts to the rear of the 2L block. Then usually there is a 1/4'-3/8" sheer plate in-between the adapter and the vw transaxle. Requires a special input shaft and clutch throwout bobbin.

given that the 1600 and 2L share the same bolt pattern, won't the ubiquitous titan adapter work?

I see the 1600 has a 200mm and the Pinto has 215mm. The VW has 200mm so the 1600 flywheel would fit inside the bell housing. Forgive my ignorance but what is the Titan adapter? Is it this? https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr....asp?RecID=277

    Thanks for the input.
