Default Testing the New Goodyear tires

Just got back from Sebring after testing the new construction Goodyear tires and I have to say that I'm very impressed. We ran the weekend on one set of the new tires (two races) with the softer 160 compound to check their durability. The tires came up to speed quickly and didn't fall off in performance throughout the weekend. Bill Wald also ran the 160 compound and set a new track record and we were just 2 tenths of a second off.

It was a good race between Bill, Robbie and Tom Beatty. All running consistent lap times. Very close racing. All STOCK engines. If this is an indication of what the racing is going to be like inn the F1K Series in 2012, it's going to be a great show!

Jon, it was great meeting you guys and really enjoyed racing with Robbie. He is really talented and was very gracious to us all. We had a fun weekend. Glad you were there.

I agree on the new Good Year Tires. Came up to temp quickly, tons of grip, and seem to last a long time. I was very impressed as well.

I look forward to seeing you guys again soon.

Congrats on the win Sunday! Great job.

    Bill

    Default Comment by Robbie Pecorari

“So I was asked today what I thought of the Stohr F1000 car,” commented Robbie Pecorari. “ After driving the car for the first time it was a blast to drive. I was expecting the car to feel like a F2000 car but I was wrong. The car felt more like a Pro Mazda and had closer speeds to it as well. We did some aero testing with our new wings and body parts. The front wing created more downforce where we were able to trim out the flaps and still have enough grip for the high speed corners. As for the back wing, we were able to trim it out also. We took off the 3rd element and flatten out the mainplane which gave the car a good balance and good straight line speed. We started the weekend on a set of the older hard compound tires for a test day, that was good but not exactly the grip we were looking for. We put a set of the new Goodyear construction super softs on and wow was the grip great. We had a concern that with the heat they might blister or wear out. We went out for a 20 minute race and the tires got faster and faster as the race went on posting the fastest lap on 16 of 18. We used the same set for race 2 which was a 30 minute race and went even faster than in race one without making any changes to the car and when we came in the tires can still do another 2 weekends on this same set. I think this car will make a great series and is very fun to drive and I think anyone who has driven one will say the same thing.”
