    Default RT4 Hub nuts

    Is anybody able to inform me of a source of the castelated socket required to remove the hub nuts on the RT4 hubs (not the nut holding the wheel on, the inner nut holding the hub onto the axle). Alternatively a drawing with specs would enable me to machine one ( I cannot derive the specs from the current nuts as they are still on the car, deep inside the hubs). The car was made in 1981 (chassis 241)

    Hi, It's the same size as the wheel nut so I just cut a socket and welded a peice of pipe in the middle to make a extra long socket like atube spanner.

    If they are the same as an RT-5 here you go. I made the red one from an impact socket which I cut in half and ground the tangs on a surface grinder with an indexing head then welded the two pieces back together with a piece of tubing between to get the right length. Later I found the small one, suppost to be a Ralt part, which uses the socket for the rear to turn it.

    They are standard bearing nuts. You migt be able to source a bearing nut socket from a very well equipped supply house or off the internet. They need to be fairly deep. Same threads as the wheel nuts - 3/4 fine IIRC. Most have made their own as has been shown. Often racers will forego the wheel centering cup and then use either a standard bearing nut wrench or, in a pinch, a brass drift. Please use a washer to compensate for the lack of the cup thickness in the stack.
