I have Brainerd on my calendar, but it appears that they aren't running a test day, and we are group 1 - all wings'n'things (read: cold tires, really fast cars, and a track most of us haven't ever been on).

The same weekend, there's a double at Grattan....shorter tow, two races, regular test day.... I'm having a hard time seeing Brainerd as a better option.

It's not likely to happen. Friday is day three of a three-day school. They are also planning to allow all the new drivers from that school to run in the national. Don't know if any of the newbies would be in our run group, but......

I like the "rational" format concept, but I just don't think that a novice permit holder or any other driver in their first weekend of SCCA competition should be running in a race for national points. I really would like to support our in-division nationals and support racing at our newest track, but I'm having trouble with this one.

I talked to the LOL Compition dir. He has been in contact with BIR,
yes they are having a school on the 26-28. So far it sounds like
we will be having a test day on fri the 28. Not sure how or if
they are going to have the newbies on the track with us or
what the run groups will be. As far as them racing with us they will only have a
reginal lisc so I am not sure how they can run in a national race?
I hope to find more out this week.

BIR is fairly wide and has a good number of decent passing areas. The new section of track might be more of a challenge as it is quite technical. This track really has something to challenge all drivers. The fastest turn in North America and also possibly the slowest. The only thing it lacks is elevation change.

We're planning on racing Grattan. Two nationals vs one and half of the towing distance makes sense for us.

BIR wasn't amazing but wasn't bad when the FE Pro was there last year. The transition to the new area from the old was quite challenging and resulted in several spins or "late entries" to that portion of the track. The run from new to the old is very fast and very fun onto the start finish area. The entry to the front straight and the first turn is pretty fun.

If people are interested in doing the BIR national, then consider the BIR pro event, even if it will be the only Pro event you can go to. A few extra bits of red tape to go through, but they make it easy for the people not doing the whole series. Actually, they make it easy for everyone doing the whole series, too!

It would be fun to have a big turn out for the CenDiv FE drivers out there at the Pro event.

That's good news - a national at a new track with no test day just isn't a very good diea, IMO.

It's sanctioned as a "rational", so in theory even a novice permit holder could enter.
