    Default 83 RT5 Tub wanted

Anyone have or know of a Ralt RT5 SuperVee tub taking up space in their shop that they would like to get rid of? Evidently the right side concrete wall between T4 & T5 at Road Atlanta is stronger than my aluminum chassis!

    Scott,

An apexspeed member, last name is Cavanaugh, used to have a tub for sale. He is located in PA and usually has one or two things for sale on this site.

I have a tub that needs to be re-skinned. It was originally used by pro team that was running an '87 car.

More info: I'm a retired aircraft mechanic with many years of structural experience, so I am willing to accept a tub needing repair work as long as the basic structure is straight.

    Scott,

Bahner's son is running the shop in CA. They have the factory jigs for the RT 5. It is relatively inexpensive to put a tub into a crate and ship it Forward Air. They can glue it as well as rivet together. I had one of their reuilds on a RT5 I sold last year. Much better than how they came from the factory....suspension adjustments actually do what you expect them to do...and the entire car feels more responsive on the track...the feedback from the car is greatly improved...much more fun to drive.

Thanks Scotty, I'm confident I can rebuilt the tub myself if I can't find a replacement tub. I have over 20 years of experience in aircraft structural fabrication, assembly & repair which is the same process as used to build & repair these aluminum monocoque racecar tubs. I had already planned to reskin mine this winter since the bottom is getting pretty worn down in a few places. (I love jumping those inside curbs). I'm just thinking someone may have a tub they no long need or maybe a old RT5 sportsracer chassis sitting around they would like to get out of their way. There must be some around somewhere because I don't see any on the track anymore.

    Default u tub?

Hey Scott , just read about your car, how much damage?
I have 1 tub here in a corner of the shop , but of course sending it any way would be a killer, I suppose...
    probably dissasembled without the skin...
I converted the AM 83- # 130 to '84 front, the one that came with # 420 is AM - 83 replacement, too. (John Timken crashed the original at Phoenix that year)...
Pat Prince has all the jigs for both year's A-arms.

and, Mike McHugh might still have the original '82-'83 front A-arms with him, most probably from my car, as we figured..

Remember the 1983 chassis is quite different from earlier and later ones. It would probably be easier to build a new one from scatch than try to modify non-83 chassis.

    Default 83-84

Indeed! By the time my '84 conversion was completed, I was ready to buy a RT-4 instead..!

    Default Rebuild Underway

Wrecked Formula S Update: I have purchased a 84'-85' tub & just finished converting the front suspension over to my 83' set-up, which I had all the spare suspension bits for thanks to Russ Mcbride. Next is the fun part of transferring the rear subframe & suspension, Busa engine & drive train, fuel cell, wiring, instrument panel, cooling & lubrication, braking, steering, & fire systems, plus every part, nut, bolt & washer from my old wrecked tub to this one. Retirement is great!

Hey Rick, Not going to Barber since the points there wouldn't change anything towards the SARRC championship anyway. Hope to have it ready for the SIC where I'll be chasing J.D. in his Proformula Mazda in hopes of another FS championship like happened a few years ago! If not ready by then it should be ready for the ARRC.
