hey im hoping for everyone’s help in getting a car i know the formula 2000 world is pretty small and alot of ppl know each other and i would like to become one of them. i finally finished my schooling and now have a secure career as an engineer and able to fund my love for racing.
what im looking for is a Van Diemen F2000 that is complete and ready to race i dont mind a few things that i will have to do to get it all set up to fit me but i am not looking for a project. i really dont have a preference on year as long as it runs and drives. if i had to choose i would prefer 91-98 and if i can find a good deal on a 99-01 i would consider spending the extra cash.
i also would prefer a competitive car that has possibly one a few races or always a strong runner. as for damage i really dunno what do you all say what would be ok and what could be considered at bad news
i would really like everyone’s help im new to formula 2000 learning as i go along so any advice is helpful
You should definately look at the Zsports car. I have seen it in action and it is in mint condition and is very fast! If I had some extra money I would definately get this car.

thanx for all the interst i really am taking my time to find just the right car. does anyone remember a yellow 91vd that sold a few years ago it was like baby yello for some reason i really like that car
Here is another Van Diemen for you. This one is a '97.
If anyone has not discussed this with you yet, the cars through 96 were a shorter wheelbase and didn't work quite as well as the later cars. Additionally, the 96 was a monoshock front end which wasn't very popular. The 97 was very slim which made for good aerodynamics but some drivers felt a little cramped in the hip and thigh area. If you are of normal size, that should not be an issue. The 98s and later were wider. The newer models, 2002 and later are quicker cars so we really have three groups and the performance is reflected in the price. The pre 97 cars are quite inexpensive but not as competitive, the 97 through 2001 cars usually win club races and the 02 and later cars are many times equipped with Zetecs and run in the pro series. I think the first thing to decide is which group you want to run in and how much you want to spend.
If you are interested in a car in the second group of 97-02, I have a really good one. It has done only one race since a pretty thorough going over and has only 4 race weekends on an Elite Pinto from Steve Knapp. You can check it out on my website at http://metcalfracing.com/live_pages/CarsforSale.php or it is also listed on the FCs for sale here on Apex. I sold it recently, but the buyer developed a medical problem that prevents him from racing so we undid the deal and the car is for sale again.
Please let me know if you would like to see additional photos of the car or specific areas or if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help.
I suggest you do not buy anything immediately. Rent a few rides first and see what you like. Gregg Borland at Arms Up usually has a rental car around. Gregg is very knowlegable. You can learn a lot from him. I know I did.
oh thanx for all the support guys well i dont mind a smaller drivers area im a really small guy im only 5 foot 7 and 140lb 145 lb something like that. i have been racing in the past and have rented a formula 2000 and well not its around budget im not looking to go be a hero im looking to be a friend and have fun and meet new friends with the same interest thats all.
that’s why i was thinking of 91 and up i just want something that is good that’s all and won’t break the back cuz let’s be honest i could buy an amazing car but the price tag will come along with it lol and I just cant justify spending that right now.
what can anyone tell me about damage what is ok and what not and how often should a rebuild be done on the engine ?
You should definately look at the Zsports car. I have seen it in action and it is in mint condition and is very fast! If I had some extra money I would definately get this car.

To start, that's awesome, and best of luck on your search! Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions. I don't know nearly as much as 90% of the guys on here, but I just purchased a '97 (my first car) 2 months ago, so I know what you're going through. Not to mention, I'm an engineer as well (except I'm a lot fatter than you are! 200lbs, and I bought the narrow '97 Chassis!!!!)
I got a great deal from an awesome guy, who has been rediculously helpful with my '97. That said, there is definitely something to be said about a newer and "very well sorted" car. I just talked with Bob (FF '97/98) about this same thing last week. You can EASILY spend more than you pay for the car in getting it sorted. Even if it seems race ready. In my (very novice) opinion, pretty much any early 90's car, you're going to be turning a lot of wrenches at first. If you go that way, make sure it's got the Tilton/Taylor Slave Cylinder Upgrade, or you WILL be busting the car in half in the first few weekends to replace some o-rings.
The Zsports car is a pro-car, and you will be able to sit down in it, and drive. It's also got all of the tricks, and is very fast. You'll have enough to worry about in learning to drive the car. If it's in your price range, it's a great deal.
Good luck, man. Your head will be spinning with everything at first, but I promise you it is ALL worth it! Hit me up anytime, and use the boards here. Everybody is very helpful.
