Holy shiate!!! Thats awesome. The quality of the video wasnt great, but from what I could tell, it was as close as you can get to actually being there. It looked like it has the potential to be right along side mid-o in the actuality column. I cant wait for this. This has to be a track next year!!!

I'd like to see another video of that track from an open cockpit car from a different view angle. I don't know how anyone drives closed cockpit cars from the seat view.

The HPT BETA is out!! So for those who have had track time there and have rFactor, please install it and see how accurate it is. (INGE, THIS MEANS YOU ) It's still in beta and there is some finishing work that the developer wants to do so if there are any layout changes, now is the time to suggest them.

    HEARTLAND PARK TOPEKA rFACTOR BETA

For anyone else who installs it, please post your system specs and how well it runs on your systems. Try racing with 20+ AI cars and see what the FPS is and report back.

It does "look" like Topeka. Some parts are pretty close.

The outside around Alpha is actually a bit wider.

The bump through 1-2 is missing and that completely defeats any sort of reality. That bump is huge and changes everything. It is nice to know that the corner should have been much faster had it been smoother.

I *feel* like the run down from 2-3 should be a little longer.

3 does not seem as long as it should be. There is definitely more camber in reality around there.

There is definitely a much bigger uphill out of six through seven.

The rest is pretty good. A good representation of how the exit of the last corner really goes onto the front straight.

The exit of pit lane is eerily accurate. I really felt like I had just gone back a few months and was there again.

Thanks for the feedback Jim. I posted your comments on the development site. One thing to consider on the rough spots in T1... Was that footage from you in the F500 or was that just an example? Those things not having much for suspension might contribute to that.

The developer is asking questions about elevations and camber. If those who have driven it and have tested the beta wouldn't mind, please post your comments here:

Once again the misconception of F5 suspension. I have four plus inches of travel in the KBS design. Has inherent dampening characteristics built in as well. That aside...

The atlantics had visible air under the tires going through that turn combo. I am not sure of the FC, but some FF had air as well. It is a rough bump.

Nice run in that 2007 video, Jim. Helluva effort moving from 19th to 3rd and on the podium. Excellent drive!

Sorry about that Jim... Maybe not a misconception from my being out of touch of the F500s. When my dad ran a F440 it had NONE.

Any other feedback you could provide the developer on the link above, would be appreciated.

Thanks---not having to defend my suspension is a great plus to going to FE this year!!!!!!!

That was a fun drive that year.

    Alright here is my interpretation.
Turn 1 and 2 = Indeed the bump is missing
Turn 3 should be longer and tighter. EDIT: also should be banked more
Turn 4 = the right hander should also be tighter. The track in between 3 and 4 isnt that wide either.
    Turn 5 = tighter
Turn 6. Sharp left hander leading to back straight. Needs to be way tighter. I took it in 3rd gear in FBMW.
The chicane in the back seems to long of the slight left in order to turn right.
All the other turns after that except the second to last corner are fine. THe second to last corner needs to be tighter and not as wide.

Cool. Thanks Matt! Here's the overlay of the sim track onto the satellite map from Google, it can't be too far off, right?

Maybe it is just that the track is too wide....

    Here's the developer's response:

"For the width of the track, I took a measurement from the satellite photos and then used that for the whole length of the track.
If it is significantly off, and it sounds like it, that would mean a big rework of the track. Do the others who have driven the track in real life agree that it might just be too wide?
If so I’d rework it after fixing the smaller bugs. There are some imperfections with the track I don’t like too much anyway so that would give me a reason to fix those as well."

    Any feedback?

That photo was shot early (before Runoffs was there). Possibly they have moved or added curbing?

Beta .004 is now released. I have it on the ApexSpeed server if anyone wants to give it a run. It has a more severe bump between T1 and T2 now along with some other fixes:

    v001
    - added grid and altgrid to all courses
    - fixed missing grass transition on back straight
    - fixed one-sided trees
    - changed shader on some grandstand materials to improve fps around the front straight
    v002
    - redone grid to have correct distance to the wall
    - added auxillary spot to allow Safety/Pace Car options without the track crashing
    v003
    - added bump over drag strip
    - redone grid for all tracks
    v004
    - added missing cones to Short track (thanks Slider916)
    - changed garagedepth in .gdb files to 3.0 (thanks to Slider916)
    - changed .tdf naming on all tracks to avoid mismatches in online races or at least help pinpointing the problem
    - removed misplaced garage spot that occassionally placed AI cars unfavourably
