Post SCCA NATIONAL @ Willow Springs Feb 28

SUNDAY - FEB 28th - Well what a difference a day makes when it comes to weather. Yesterday was all rain & cold weather. In a word - Miserable! This morning the sun came up with a sparkle and the sky was cloudless from horizon to horizon. Warmed up nicely into the mid 60's too! No more 46 degrees. Today has turned out to be a perfect day for racing with just a cool nip in the air so the engines make the best HP & yet won't over heat. Its lunch time & the National Race just ended & I am waiting for official results. All the cars are in Impound being checked for legality, weight, etc. Don Simons very quick CSR, a Radical ProSport, was brought in on the hook at race end after jumping to an early lead & leading the first 6 laps for the CSR contingent for those first few laps. Ken Davis out of Escondido, Ca. won 1st overall with his RALT RT-40 FA turning a fast lap of 1:16.316. It looked like the beautifully prepaired Swift 014a set up by the very compentent Jack Crone Racing out of Corona was also very fast this weekend as Harold Grafton kept Ken Davis honest by piloting it to take second overall & 2nd in the atlantic group, he was followed by my good friend Chris Emanuel taking third in his pro-Star Mazda FA after a last minute fix to his radiator. The black FB of Nicholas Belling turned a fast lap of 1:17.499 and was the early overall leader until Ken Davis in his FA and Harold Grafton in his FA got down to business & started ripping off some blistering laps to catch & pass him for the overall lead. Second in FB was Gary Hickman turning a fast lap of 1:18.744 in his Custom EDGE formula B car and finnishing 5th overall. The Beautiful West WX-1 of Lee Alexander took 4th overall just behind the 2 atlantics & the FB of Belling - Lee, being first in DSR, took the honors from flag to flag in that class with Henry Botkin as second in DSR. Winning the CSR race after Dyno Don Simons demise on lap 7 was the green tiger paint job on the very fast Radical of Steve Nicklin out of Henderson, Nevada. Steve turned a fast lap of 1:19.262 in the race plus he was on the sports racer pole with the fastest qualifying time of the CSR's. Steve Is getting faster & faster every race. Definately a contender for the SCCA National runnoffs championship, which he also ran last year, as he'll be a front runner contender in CSR later this year there. He was right behind the 3 Atlantic cars & the 2 FBs, & 1 DSR cars for a 7th overall - remembering the FB's had a split start with them way in front by the full length of the front streight at the green flag. The Radical Chassis dominated the CSR class. A West & Stohr were the 2 DSR leaders with James Kuhns finishing a few laps down in third turning 1:27.065 times. The S2000 class was won by Doug Ota out of Irvine in a Swift DB-2 turning 1:24.624 times. Dave Ferguson was second right behind Doug waiting for him to make a mistake. Dave won this race last year and is always tough to beat. Joe Moran was 3rd in his S2000 with a nice clean drive. FM was won by Mike Anderson turning 1:21.843 times for a 12th overall finish for him. Here is the finishing order below with their respective fastest lap.

Default Totally Radical!

Looks like a lot of SR-3's. Cool cars- not so many around the East Coast anymore that I've seen.

Post Radical SR-3's

In fact there a lot of these SR-3 cars sitting in peoples garages - you can pick up a used SR-3 for some where around $ 25 K. We out here were working on the possibility of making a sub class like Formula Ford has Spect Ford or Club Ford. Make a regional only class of the SR-3 class for regional usage only as a sub class of the national CSR class.

We were trying to get that pushed through - but currently not sure where that will go - good Idea though I think.

Hope you enjoyed the race report.
