Doesn't look like there is any reason to exhange a hard-wired TranX 260.

Unless it is broken and sitting on the shelf, they will take those too.

If anyone sees a reason to send in a functioning, hard wired transponder, post it here.

I couldn't think of one, unless yours is broken or has damaged/frayed wires.

I wish they'd publish a transponder number and say "If your number is less than this, you qualify." Probably save a lot of emails and phone calls.

My transponder is probably from around 04/05 (hard to remember). I've had T&S tell me in the past that my hit rate is low. Probably more dure to mounting, but ...

FWIW, I've always had the same hardwired one since we went to transponders (when, 01?) and never heard a peep out of T+S. Stuffed it into some walls and tires, too!

Ditto. Late 2000 in my case and it's been moved between cars as well. The only time I had a problem is when the hot-wire came loose (after an encounter with the wall two months earlier).

Of course I'm not going across S/F NEARLY as fast as you guys are!

    Default My rechargable unit

has been in service since SCCA required them.

Still lasts 5-6 days on a charge.

I would guess this offer is based more on market saturation. I would guess that very few SCCA types don't have one and as noted the transponders tend to last a long time. No one replaces a working part.

I've heard your hit rate is low on more than just the transponder...

Seriously, my hard wired transponder survived a minor front end impact and kept on ticking.

My self-powered unit still gives me 5-6 days on a charge - and I only forgot to recharge it once since these things were required in SFR. No mention of what they plan on soaking you for an "upgrade" which doesn't seem to do much.

The mylaps web site has become nearly useless for support. Guess that is what happens when you become a monopoly.

$50 to transfer the transponder to your name when you buy a "previously owned" race car with an installed unit.

My hardwired version had an led to indicate it was "on". The LED has stopped working, but the unit seems to still trigger the timing loop. I'd like to see the "deal" before sending mine in.

I got an email response. Here's the deal:

You get 20% off the cost of a new one.

    In other words:

$304 instead of $380 for the direct power

$336 instead of $420 for the rechargeable

Yeah, I'm going to spend $300 to trade in my working transponder for another one that does the same thing. You'd think this was a product that was something other than the world's most expensive On/Off switch.

After sending an email to AMB regarding this post, I have gotten no help whatsoever.. Funny that you guys have.
I have a hardwired transponder that dosen't work, or so I believe. The light dosent go on when powered up? anyone know a way to check and see if it is working? The led may be burnt out. Looks rough and worn.

Bob, the LED on my hardwired unit died a few years ago. It still works without it. Your tech shed should have a meter for testing it. We have Tim from SafeQuip in the southeast and he has a tester on his parts trailer.

Default How too see if it's working

Just last week I got this from a knowlegable friend........

    AMB transponder test

I have found a way to see if an AMB transponder is working. (at least it worked on the three I have tested so far).
Using a portable AM radio, set the dial near the center between stations, set the volume mid-way, and move the radio (not just the antenna) past the bottom of the transponder. You should hear a loud static buzzing noise as it passes the transponder. (make sure both the radio and transponder are turned on and charged). Also works with FM but not as well.

And as to the AMB websaite it is hard to navigate and harde to look someone up. But then maybe something got lost in the translation Dutch>English=Dutlish

Default Wish I had known this last August...

I wish this had come out before the 2009 Runoffs. I had to buy a new hard-wired one at full price because the old one, which I had since they were 1st required, gradually got weaker (started to get "low hits" about 2 years prior to dying) and then died at the August 2009 F2000 CS race at Mid-Ohio. I threw the old dead one away because at that time, it had no value...
