    Default 2010 F1000 Championship!

I'm very pleased to announce that the 2010 F1000 National Championship presented by George Dean Racing Engines and Taylor Race Engineering is on! Both title sponsors have returned to support the F1000 class and help grow the national participation in 2010! With the announcement that F1000 will be included in the Runoffs, this could be the best season yet.

Like last year, the F1000 National Championship presented by George Dean Racing Engines and Taylor Race Engineering will be a season-long points championship, with registered competitors scoring points at all SCCA National races in 2010. Drivers will accrue points for race finishes in accordance with the regular SCCA national points system. In addition, program participants will be awarded two bonus points for each FB entrant (anyone that took part in an official session during that event) that finishes behind him/her. A driver’s best six results in regular-season races will count toward the Cup. Drivers can score points in any SCCA-sanctioned National club race event in the 2010 season.
Even more points are available at the season finale to be held as part of the SCCA Runoffs held at Road America on September 25. During that race, drivers will earn double base points for the top nine finishers and no limit on bonus points.
As if that isn't enough, there will also be an FB Super Sweep prize. To earn this award a driver must meet the criteria outlined by the SCCA: http://www.scca.com/newsarticle.aspx?hub=1&news=3840
In addition to the purse paid based on season points and the Super Sweep, there will be several other prizes to be announced later.

To register for the 2010 Championship, fill out the attached registration form and mail it, along with payment to the address at the bottom of the form. You can also use Paypal as noted on the form, just be sure to provide all the requested information.

    • The championship will still be a season-long points chases that includes ALL SCCA nationals. It will also include the Runoffs.
    • Regular season races will pay standard GCR points, plus TWO bonus points for every ENTRANT that finishes behind you. What this means is that if there are 5 cars that practice or qualify, but only 4 cars start the race, the winner will get 12 points for the win, plus 8 points for the 4 cars that entered the weekend that didn't finish ahead of the winner.
    • Runoffs points will be double GCR points, plus bonus points.
    • There will be a separate prize payout for converted cars.
    • Registration in the F1000 National Championship presented by George Dean Racing Engines and Taylor Race Engineering automatically makes you eligible for the West Coast Pro Series (http://www.f1000proseries.com/). If you plan on racing in that series, it's highly recommended that you register for the National series as well. You could win prizes in both series at the same time!

Look for more announcements as the season gets rolling. Keep an eye on http://www.formula1000.com/ throughout the season for Championship news and points updates.

Be sure to thank our returning sponsors and keep them in mind when you need parts or service. Best of luck to everyone in 2010!

The 2010 F1000 National Championship got underway this past weekend in Homestead, Florida with a double national weekend. Brandon Dixon (Citation) started off perfectly, claiming victory in both races. Glenn Cooper (RFR) finished second in both races as he attempts to defend his 2009 National Championship. Joe Fitos (Stohr) was classified 3rd in both races, although he was 9 laps down in the first race due to damage from a first lap incident. That same incident also ended Bill McLaughlin's (RFR) weekend as he was shown as DNS for both races. They hope to have the car repaired in time for the double nationals at Sebring this weekend.

To clarify the points system this year, a driver will earn two bonus points for each *entrant* that he finishes ahead of. So, for this past weekend's races, Brandon Dixon earned 6 bonus points in each race, because Bill McLaughlin took part in a session for each of the sanction numbers, which were both held on Friday. Because not every session is always shown on Mylaps, there will be instances where I'll need to rely on the drivers that were there to confirm the number of bonus points scored.
