    Default 2010 Schedule Announcement

    F2000 Unveils 2010 14-Race Schedule

Sharon, CT – The F2000 Championship Series, the official development series for USF1, announced today its 2010 seven-weekend, 14-race schedule, running from April until September. F2000 remains one of the premier development series in North America, offering a national championship for young aspiring racers, and an ultra-competitive playing field for established veterans. A perfect mix of high profile events and classic North American race tracks blend together to form one of the strongest schedules in the open wheel development series marketplace for the career-minded driver.

“As we prepare for our fifth season, our 2010 schedule has something for all our competitors,” commented F2000 Managing Director Michael Rand. “The combination of great race tracks, great track time, good exposure and big fields will guarantee our best season yet.”

For the fifth year in a row, the series will open its much anticipated 2010 championship season at Virginia International Raceway in conjunction with VDCA in April. From VIR the series heads to Road Atlanta in May for the first time since 2008 with Formula Drift. Then F2000 crosses the border to Mosport in June, and joins up with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

After that, two very high profile events take over as F2000 supports the IndyCar Series at Watkins Glen on the July 4th weekend, and runs in conjunction with ALMS at Lime Rock Park at the end of July.

In early August, the series returns to Road America, where in 2008, a car-count record was set when 41 cars made the traditional climb up-hill to the green flag. Also on the card at Elkhart Lake are various sports car events, including the now very much revived Trans-Am Series. The F2000 Championship Series closes out the 2010 season at New Jersey Motorsports Park, on the Lightning circuit.

Despite a hurting economy in 2009, the F2000 Championship Series posted the highest average car count on the open wheel landscape in North America. In September, F2000 was officially endorsed by USF1 as an official development platform for their Formula One ladder program.

An abundance of track-time is provided to competitors, multiple chassis and engine configurations are the norm as the series continues its rules integration with the SCCA to allow vertical integration between club and pro racing.

The series, featuring double-race weekends, remains ultra competitive with many young guns looking to establish themselves and move up the open wheel ladder, while savvy veterans return year after year to show off their skills. 2008 champ Norwegian Anders Krohn and 2009 title winner American Chris Miller have successfully taken that next step to Star Mazda, with Krohn already cruising to victory on the Milwaukee oval.

    2010 Calendar (tentative):

April 9-11 Virginia International Raceway (VDCA)

May 6-8 Road Atlanta (Formula Drift)

June 11-13 Mosport International (NASCAR Canadian Tire Series)

July 2-4 Watkins Glen International (IndyCar Series)

July 23-24 Lime Rock Park (ALMS)

    August 6-8 Road America (Trans-Am)

September 17-19 New Jersey Motorsports Park – Lightning Circuit (Vintage Racing Group)

Nice schedule, Road Atlanta will be a great addition, but:

    Darn! No Mid-Ohio!

Maybe because Mid-Ohio is a fantastic track. Every lap is a true pleasure.

Sorry, didn't put enough after that, it was tongue in cheek. Mid-Ohio is a great track, especially if you're not an aero guy. And Dave W. has LOTS of laps there...thousands maybe? I'm sure Tim Minor will miss it as well...and even Camadella might like it if he runs the pro engine map this year!
