Default Hans shoulder belt mount spec?

Hi All, Can someone tell me what the distance is supposed to be between the shoulder harness mounting points on the chassis when using the Hans or Defnder devices?
I seem to remember either 5 or 7 inches.
    Thanks very much!!

    Skip:

I made mine in my SE 3 to have 5" between belts mounting tabs (using a 3" wide shoulder).

I did that so I would still be compliant if I ever went to the 2" wide Hans specific shoulder belts in the future.

Also more interesting data to create noise in your head:

Gentlemen, Thank you very much. That helps a lot.
I just picked up a 95 VD FC car and it sat since 2001 so we have it down to the frame so this is a good time to modernize the mounts. Will probably put vertical pieces in with a couple of tabs at different heights for different drivers.
The car will be for rent in about a month.
I could also use a set of wheels and am also looking for a 2000 or newer chassis.
    Thanks again!!

I have an RF 94/95, and modified the chassis to accomodate proper HANS during ground up re-build. I'll post some photos later.

Are those mounts way below shoulder level? I ask because I believe that they are supposed to be 1-2" below. Don't want to see anybody get hurt if that is the case.

The original mounting points are wayyyy below shoulder level. The HANS guys came around to cal speedway a few year back and fitted me up. He took one look at the belts and said "all those things are doing is crushing your spine".

Added the two upper attachments a couple years later. The lower ones for perfect. The upper ones put you at the roll bar limit.

    Default HANS mounts

We use the spec's for shoulder belt mounting, for use with a HANS, as 3" between the inside edges of the belts, which means for a 3" wide shoulder belt, the mounts are on 6" centers. We have moved the attachment points for many of the vehicles we've seen through the shop, most up, some down, depending on the driver's size.
Some have taken a great amount of work to accomplish, but the drivers have felt more comfortable with the change, even before some were wearing a HANS.
