Default Cold Air Box - How to mount at carb

    Hi All,

I am building a cold air box for my FST and I know where I can mount the rear portion to the radiator but I do not know how to mount it around the carb. Do folks mount it on the flange where the air filter mounts? I would appreciate your thoughts or experiences.....

    Thanks for your help!

    cheers, geno

On Formula Firsts the cold air box can, in addition to supplying cold air to the carb, can also be used to assist in cooling the oil which you seem to want to do. The most elegant solution is on the Evolutions and this installation is made easier by the fact that the Evo tail is flat on top. So the scoop itself mounts to the tail. The fiberglass lower portion meets the glass underneath and surrounds the carb and meets with the oil cooler. This is a very efficient design and worth emulating. I don’t have an Evolution so I can’t send you a picture but perhaps an Evolution owner will.

Doug Seim and I used the same concept building the air boxes on our two cars but we mounted the box to the roll bar and a cross tubes. Does the same thing as the Evo but it’s not part of the tail. You can buy the air box we use and if interested send me a PM and I’ll get you the contact.

Here is what I have done on the development airbox on the Mission FST. Tie wraps will likely be replaced by something less consumable (o-rings?) when the final design is made.
