Sit down sportsfans, big news from the southland.
After two events in the new 2002 season, Michael Montfort is now tied for the lead in the 2002 SARRC Championship! Making the most of a major long distance trek to the hollowed concrete of Sebring, Montfort scores a big win in CFC to vault him up to a tie with Mike Eakin in the 2002 points battle. Montfort's mere presence as a power from the northern half of the SEDIV must have discouraged any of the southern boys from defending their home turf, making him the only CFC in a large field.
Montfort reported that driving his metallic blue '84 Reynard on the historic "long course" was well worth the long distance tow from Hotlanta. He reports there were major incidents in each race, including the large group that competed for SARRC points on Sunday afternoon. He was moving up through the field in the points race when his motor decided to shift to 3 cylinder mode and thus save one cylinder for the next race at Road Atlanta. Never the less, he put in the effort to make the long trek and was rewarded with 12 points.
The rest of the northern contingent must have thought they were in the CENDIV. Being that it was November, they had switched to maintenance mode, working on trailers, refreshing motors, and eating so as to store enough fat for the long one month winter that strikes each year in Georgia.
With no other SARRC CFC racing events until at least late February, the Frog will have to reach deep for anything valuable to report from the SE CFC scene.
Is it some cosmic coincidence that both the F1 world champion and SARRC CFC leaders are named Michael?
