    Default FB Motor needed

Looking for a late model GSXR-1000. I have the original Photon which currently has an old 2002 engine, want to update to the more recent technology. Comments, ideas, leads are welcome. Also interested in comments around adequate cooling, as well as comments around oiling (wet vs dry, balancing oil cooling vs pressure if wet, etc). Thanks in advance, Tom.

    Default L8 'XR thou transplant

Tom, there's a ton of cooling system ideas/temp info in previous posts.
    Were you having temp/pressure issues?
We now have temps completely under control w/ one oil and one water rad in a small sidepod car like a 98 and newer VD.
I believe your chassis is so equiped (kinda where I got the idea!).
I'm not sure if you older chassis/bodywork has the room for the coolers I am using in my RF99.
I know that folks w/ pre '98 cars have much smaller sidepods and it would seem quite easy to just make the sidepods taller, allowing fitment of the coolers that will do the job.
The newer gen 'XR1000 needs more oil cooling than earlier models, so if your car was cooling well w/ the older gen engine, chances are it will not w/ the newer mill.
As for wet vs dry, if you have the room for a proper dry sump tank and don't mind the extra weight and complexity, it seems like there is some free HP to be had.
I mention this as some of the dry sump tank configurations and locations in other cars (DSR's as well as FB's) seem very suspect to me: aparently choking the exit air from water rads, placed adjacent to exhaust collectors, not baffled correctly, etc...).
Proper wet sump pans are quite capable as well, proving themselves w/ many Nat'l wins and Championships.
Just curious, how many hours/race weekends did that engine have on it?
'll keep an eye out for a L8 model engine for you.
Thanks for your FB entry, they all add up.

    Regards, GC

PS I still have a wet pan setup for sale - this could be your lucky day!

    Default Many thanks Glen

Good info, thanks Glen. Motor only had 30 minutes on it after rebuild, pressure started dropping after just a few laps. What was actually in the motor and details of rebuild are a mystery to me, it came 'free' with the car. Interested in what you have available --- stigwhite at comcast dot net. Thanks, Tom

Welcome to the FB crowd, especially in the northeast.

Coop's got it right... Suzuki, wet sump, big oil cooler seems to be a good combo.

When I converted my RF96 to Hayabusa many years ago, instead of raising the sidepod tops, I widened the floor and the sidepod tops. it was not difficult. You'll get more floor surface area this way which should theoretically increase downforce.

For those of you who have not seen Tom in action, he was very quick at NJMP against the other FB and the DSR/CSR crowd in the regionals last year. Ex club ford pilot so excellent pedigree (am I biased???)

with another 60HP ( I asume that is at least the delta between what he had in there and a K7) he is going to be tough to beat

Thanks Steve, needed a little shot in the arm, right now I'm missing the club ford days ...
