    Default I'm sad...

Well, after trying to put something together to drive at the 40th it looks like it won't come together.

Not enough money to buy, little time to wrench, can't find an inexpensive rental, need to buy a new helmet and H&N...

Just venting my frustration at the fact that I won't be driving in what is sure to be the greatest FF race to happen in my lifetime. Why oh why did I sell my car at the end of 2007???

Ah well, I'll be there drinking heavily while cheering on my friends!

    Long Live FF!

PS: I need a long lost relative to croak and leave me a pile of $$$!!!

    Default Someone needs...

an intervention Put down the bottle, before it's too late!

Ha, Seriously though, certainly there is someone you know that can loan you a helmet and HANS. Have you placed an ad 4 rental needed? You gotta get out of the box, go all creative. Get all focused, put on the blinders. Full steam ahead, "F" the torpedoes!
Whatever you do, don't show up at the track w/o your driving gear bag.
    You kin do eet!

    That's all for now, class...

    Bryan,

I have an extra HANS if you find a helmet and ride.

Dude, the ApexSpeed family has done more with less.

There are cars out there without drivers, I know that to be a fact. I'm sure it can be done.

I don't know you, Bryan, but you sound like you need to run the 40th. I have a helmet you can use. It's a size 7-3/4. If you have a normal size head, it should work with three or four balaclavas. Seriously, if you want a loaner, email me.

    Default CARS w/o DRIVER

    Brian:

I found a Van Diemen RF97 (?) under a tarp at Adams Racing yesterday....John says it needs less than a day's work to have it ready to race. Also, I belive Ron Tebo still has a Van Diemen RF78.

I can put you in touch with either or both of them if you are interested.

I think Ron's car needs at least a mk9, if not more.

There is a ready-to-go Dulon a few hours south of Road America, too, just waiting for a new wheeler.

What size/brand of helmet. I've got a few lying around that may work.

My 97 VD (Clark Cambern's old car) is available as a rental for the 40th (and will be for sale later this summer).

Bryan, I know how you feel. I'm so close to driving in the 40th. All I need is:

-A nicely restored Merlyn 11A, Lotus 51, or Titan Mk6
-A trailer with benches, power, and living quarters
    -Hospitality tent
-A nice new Suburban to tow the whole thing
    - Driver's suit (with matching shoes, of course)
-Helmet (with custom Troy Lee graphics, naturally)
    -HANS device
    -Catering crew
-A huge wad of cash so I can impress my posse with my generosity (and provide beer for the entire field on saturday night)
-A whole bunch of those snarky tile things to put down in the paddock (I could work up a pattern so it looks like Colin Chapman)
-A couple mini bikes painted just like the race car
    SIGH-- So Close!

    Default Titan Mk 6

...I've got the Titan Mk 6, but not enough time to finish it! Right now it's a bare chassis with a few tubes that need repair. I've got everything I need--except the time.

I hope everyone attending has a great, safe event! Good luck to all!

this ain't that tough. Lets figure out who we can take to seibkins, get them hammered to the point of not even wanting to drive the next day, and there you go. That is how we do it here in the Mid-West, you of all people should know that!

As in Adams Aero FV's? hmmm, maybe John would trade the RF97 for my Adams Aero! - - well a guy can dream can't he.

Sorry - didn't mean to hijack.

To the original poster - like everyone else - think outside the box and call as many people as you can think of. I don't know you but apparently a lot og folks here do, I would bet with enough bush beating a ride could come along.

    good luck to you

As Doug eluded to, I have a Dulon CFF that could be available for the 40th. It even won a race at RA last year....

Besides, I'm sure Cliff will let you borrow his Piper to run the regional Ford race

    Default Engine for Bryan

Anyone got an engine that I can bolt into my Reynard so that I can give it to Bryan to run the 40th in? I ran out of funding to build a new one after the crank broke.

Bryan, the offer still stands, and you know the car. Find an engine, and you have your ride. We are just looking for a one-time loaner to make the event. That should be easier to find than a race-ready car....gmg

    Hey Bryan,

Hoping I'll see you at the 40th behind the wheel of a Formula Ford.

While my initial plan was to run the restricted regional in my Lola 540 in addition to covering the action for EFCN, I'll now be just watching and reporting. Just can't afford the expenses involved. Bummed about that, but still excited about being there for what will be I'm sure an awesome event.

    Cheers,

Default Wow, This has the makings of

    A) A "Movie of The Week" (remember those?).
My pick for the lead would have to be Craig T Nelson, w/ maybe James Garner as his father, probably suffering from an old war wound that kept him from being able to compete/reach his true potential in racing. He had been a badass driver right up until he went off to fight in WW2.
Nelson would be coming off his 3rd bad marriage, this time swearing off the "I do's" until such time as that whole Stepford thing is worked out.
One day while sulking about out in the garage, he pulls back a very dusty canvas tarp covering his long forgotten Lola/Vanwall/Hawk/VanDiemen/ and remembers/flashes back to the time 40 years ago that his dad had promised him, then a tenderfoot of 14, that they would go to Rd America for the first ever FF race.
As things happen, Dad's old WW2 bum leg acted up and he has to be hospitalized w/ the dreaded Gout. Race ='s DNS.
Fast forward 40 years and he remembers that fateful weekend that had been lost to time, and realizes the only way out of his self made prison is to get off his ass and make it happen!
He then finds himself on the receiving end of much help from friends he has not been in touch with for years all the way to strangers (if such a concept is even think-able in our sphere) he has never met (like there's some other kind? - Ed), all in an effort to make the grid.
Much thrashing ensues, a few knuckles are bloodied in extreme closeup and ultra slow motion, made capable by today's ultra high speed cameras.
Our hero goes on to win the big one, against all odds, and makes it to the hospice just in time to give dear old Dad his long overdue trophy.
While in the waiting room, he notices the head nurse. She's a spry 48 y/o who turns out to be the little girl that used to live next door that had a crush on him as a boy.
She too is coming off a bad marriage, to a gambling drunkard, and has also sworn off marriage, in fact anything to do with men until such time as a bad ass race car driving, Bounty Towel lookin Lumberjack comes along!

    B) Out Frogging Frog and his Runoffs escapades from Mid O back in '04(?).

    Hey, it could happen...

    Get On It, Bri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Coop, you could be a Hollywood writer!

But we need some plot complications!

Our hero needs some flashbacks that torment him late at night. Perhaps he was an A10 Warthog driver in Gulf War I?

He needs a grumpy, foul mouthed ornery team manager who tells him he's nuthin but tire marbles.

Team Manager's beautiful but way too young, tomboy daughter who keeps yelling on the radio "Keep Poooshing, Bryan, Keep Poooshing!!"

As the closing credits roll... a phone call from Maranello....

I can see it now...(Coop - holding up his hands, framing the shot...)
