    Default Track Gas

I know it isn't worth anything legally but I have no problem stating that we will use the track gas for our efforts at the 40th and nothing exotic.

If others want to join this 'gentlemans agreement' then by all means put up a reply. If not, that's fine too.

    156 CF and FF

edit: I dont have a problem with avgas either. I just dont personally use it. I haven't been to Road America for a club race ever so I dont know what is there and what isn't. Basically if you want to say publicly that you aren't going to run exotic fuel then support this thread. If you want to use exotic fuel then don't worry about this. I am mainly concerned about the CF race as the Crossle won't be competitive in FF.

    Default Track gas

What is the track gas at Road America as I would rather not haul gas all the way from Connecticut.

I've been using Road America's fuel for decades and never had a problem. They currently offer Sunoco Race Fuel, and Sunoco unleaded. I remember the old days when race fuel there was free.

Andy, you can include me in the track gas deal but my co-promoter Steve Beeler is an avgas user as are many others.
It seemed to us there was no way of getting everyone to use the same fuel but peer pressure might keep some of the rocket fuel out.
Avgas tends to be substantially cheaper than Cam 2 Purple, the 110 leaded.

Eddie Callo, Road America has the same fuel available as Lime Rock, both 110 and 112 octane leaded and then the 100 unleaded which we cannot use as the GCR is still requiring leaded fuel. No need to trailer 20-30 gallons from either coast which is likely not legal anyway without various state permits..........

    Michael, et al

I'm an avgas user. Is there a source for that somewhere close to the track?

Not sure but the Sheboygan County Airport, about 12-15 miles from the track, might be a source.
Anyone out there have a better answer ?

I will, and always have, used Avgas unless it's in the sups that track gas has to be used. It's just what the engine builder told me to use.

I can't afford the exotic stuff anyway, so it's never even been an option.

Do you know a place to get AvGas in the Milwaukee area? I haven't started calling around to the local GA airports yet.

BP AV Gas should be available at Sheboygan County Airport from one of the FBOs, but I'd call first to confirm that they can fill open transportable containers:

Here are the directions from the track to the airport:

Take it from a part-time summer resident of Elkhart Lake, it is actually very close.

Any local airport with an FBO has it. Prices to vary by a good bit.

airports in the area are Gen Mitchell, Timmerman, Waukesha, East Troy. When I get home later I can check my flight stuff and see who has what.

I don't know how close New Holstien and Sheboygan airport is from RA, but they might have fuel too.

West Bend is closest to me, I just wasn't sure if they would sell it to guys with a pickup bed full of 5 gallon jugs!

    East Troy, WI 100LL

New Holstien WI. 100LL My outdated airport directory says fuel number is 715.743.4400

Sheboygan WI. 100LL This is a bigger airport and should be attended dawn to dusk on the weekends.

West Bend, WI 100LL., Sorry Matt, no phone listed. Google search should find something.

If anyone gives you grief about putting it in a container, tell em you are building an Ultralight or something. I've never had anyone say anything, but that doesn't mean someone won't take it upon themselves to be the fuel Nazi. It isn't illegal as far as I know. Might ask for a tail number if it is a self serve pump. N9639 if you need one.

never a problem getting av gas, just dont march through the flight lounge with your containers, leave 'em by a gate

just tell them your running up a homebuilt or whatever or you just need a little for some dyno testing

usually they dont want you hauling forty gallons off site LOL

The reason they're not supposed to sell it for non-aviation use is there is no road tax on it.

The only time I had a problem was at a small strip in Tennessee. Everywhere else I've bought AvGas, it was a simple matter of telling them it was for an off-road racing vehicle, which is perfectly legal. In fact, you can even save your receipts and claim the aviation fuel tax as a credit on your federal 1040; there's a special place to put it, so one would assume that the IRS knows about legal off-road AvGas use.

Marshall, where do you buy it around West Bend? I was thinking of trying the airport up there, since it's only 15 minutes from me.

I was afraid someone would ask that, since it's so close to RA. Unfortunately, I haven't bought any since I moved here last fall....sorry.
