Default What are the rules on FV Wheels.

Ok, I've probably changed 10,000 FV wheels in my lifetime while I worked at Frisby's. I don't know the actual rule on whether or not Aluminum wheels are legal to use. I know the VW wheels get scarce at times and just curious if I had an Aluminum wheel if it could be run.

    Thanks

    From the GCR:

    C. Wheels shall be standard fifteen (15) inch X 4J as used on the 1200cc and 1300cc VW sedan as defined herein, or any steel (15) inch X 4.5J wheel within the track dimensions of C.2. Wheels may be balanced only by the use of standard automotive balance weights (adhesive or clip on). Hub cap clips shall be removed.

Yes, the original wheels in decent shape are tough to find. The older wheels are the optimum since they are lighter. Later imports were 2 lbs heavier. New ones are still available imported but they are over $70 each! I think the 4.5" wheels are available cheaper but they are not the wheel of choice.

Having come from FF and sedans before I went to FV, am I the only one that finds it both humorous and fantastic when someone complains that wheels cost $70 each?

I appreciate that, but when we are talking a stamped steel 4" wide wheel that used to be $19.95, $70 isn't lovable.

What's the weight of the lighter ones? I got a pile of wheels with my XTC and they seem to range from 10-12 pounds based on a few unmounted ones I weighed. There are a couple styles, some are VW others are IR, and one of the differences is the flange around the lug holes.

I think your scale is off a little, but the later wheels are about 13.5. I think the early ones come in at about 11. But there have been several manufactures over the years and their could be other weights. If you have some true ones at 10, keep them close.
