    Default What drive shafts, T440

    Hi Guys and Girls,
What sort of road car where the Lola T440 drive shafts from as I want to chase some down . The ones I have don't match as the ribs in them are different.
    Regards Ian.

I believe they are a stock VW driveshaft but I don't know which car. As long as the length is correct why would the number of ribs matter?

If it is VW, how many different versions of the old Rabbit were there? It has to be from a Rabbit doesn't it, being a 1975 vintage? Then again, over the years who knows what CV joints are in the car now. That may be why the splines don't match up.

    Default drive shafts

Hi guys, the splines are fine but the ribs that locate the standard boots are different ,it doesn't really make any difference execpt they don' tmatch and it doesn't look as good as it could and I'm fussy. If I can find out which model vw I can keep an eye out and pick one up if I come across one if not I won't cry I also Have most of another T440 which has no drive shafts. ( it does have 2 but they are longer ) I think the rabbits may have been called Golfs down here.
    Thanks. Ian.

HAD SAME PROBLEM SOME TIME AGO WHEN REBUILDING OUR F2000. ONLY OUR PROBLEM WAS WE HAD ONE SHORT AXLE?. WENT DOWN TO THE LOCAL PARTS STORE THAT WE BUY PARTS FROM AND SIDLED UP TO ONE OF THE PARTS GUYS WE KNOW. GAVE HIM THE MEASUREMENTS AND SPLINE CONFIGURATION AND HE CALLED HIS AXLE REBUILDER. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE SOME KIND OF A GUIDE. OURS CAME BACK AS A PORSCHE 944 AUTOMATIC. GO FIGURE. BOUGHT A REBUILT AXLE TO GET THE SHAFT (STILL CHEAP AFTER GIVING UP THE DEPOSIT) TA DA ONE USABLE SHAFT AND TWO SPARE CV JOINTS. CHET CHARTER SUNNY NAPA VALLEY IN CALIFORNIA

    Default Driveshafts

Give me an overall length - I have a bunch of shafts here. If not I have a source list by length that I did years ago that may not be current

The T440 Axels are VW with automatic transmissions. There are 2 different lengths and the T440 uses the short one. This is probably late '70's to early '80's vintage VWs.

Early Van Diemens run the same half shaft. The data that I have is:

    15 3/8" overall length
14 15/16" snap ring groove to snap ring groove.
    27mm x 33 spline

From early VW Type 3 left side only.

My Lola blueprints indicate PN: 292-4100. They were from a VW squareback w/automatic.
