Is this still on the schedule for an EWC event?
Craig Jones
Yes, Mid-Ohio September 8-9 is an EWC weekend. I'm still short a couple of parts to get my CF back together, but I'm hoping to get them this week in which case I'll be there.
Just spoke to Gloria at OVR and she said there were currently 31 cars registered for our group, including 14 Fords and a Club Ford. If you have a C/FF and you're on the fence, fall off on the participation side - it's going to be a great field of Fords! - Erik
I signed up for the EWC event at Mid-Ohio as a warm-up for the New England Challenge finale the following weekend at Watkins Glen.
This will be my first race with the EWC guys although I've raced with Joe over the years and maybe a few other M-O regulars might be there. I'm sure glad to see the large field -- probably the biggest FF/CF field at M-O in a while.
Is there a FF paddock space being reserved?
Great idea Bob, I'll see if I can get them to do that! Anyone still on the fence this could be our biggest field ever! Please get your entry in today!
Thanks!
Where can you see the entry list? I am sending mine in tomorrow.............I see they are running the long course on sat and short course on sun. Is there a gear change requirment in order to run the different tracks? Can I run the same gearing?
Andrew
I run the same gears on the short course as the long course -- the short course just cuts out the chicane between Turn 1 and the keyhole which is not the basis for any of the gear selections
I should be there in CFF. Any other CFF's going to be there?
I'll be running a Tiga in CFF, Rex Gunning's CFF Zink Z10 will be there with Kent Wingate running it. I'll see if I can get a list from the registrar today and list who has signed up thus far.
Joe
I'm at about 90% probability to be there in CFF. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the stuff I've ordered will arrive by this weekend.
Phil
I'll be there in my red Tiga FFA-81 (#5) having survived my first experience at Road America (and my first EWC weekend).
Chuck
News from home is that the box with the parts arrived. So, if they are really the right parts, and I don't find any other problems caused by the wreck at Gingerman, I should be able to make it.
It looks like we'd get up to 5 CFF if I make it.
Phil
Does anybody know what the current policy is for entering the MO track to set up before registration. I sent the track an email but got no reply.

I think it depends on what they have going on that day. The last time I went up on a Friday they had a track day and they just had us sign a liability release and let us in. You were then able to go back when registration opened and sign up for the weekend.
Joe
The car is on the ground and only needs some final alignment work today. We'll be there.
Phil
That's great Phil - look forward to seeing you there!
Anybody have a list of who is racing in FF and CFF? I plan on going if my work schedule doesnt conflict with this weekend. I should be able to make it.........
Andrew
I'm attempting to get the list from the registrar and the Regional Director from the OVR region so hopefully I'll be able to post it soon. You would think it was top-secret....
Joe,
If you get in contact, please post the whole race group as I too have been attempting to contact OVR about group 1 race entries. No reply/call backs from OVR

The Mid-Ohio EWC prize drawing will be hosted by Phil and Sarah Kingham at a time to be determined. The drawing will be at Phil's trailer...keep an eye open for Phil's Zink Z-10C. Here's the list of goodies that will be given away:

(2) 1-year subscription to FormulaCar Magazine (new subscriber only!)
(3) and (4) $100 shop labor credit from Murray Motorsports (FF and CFF)
(5) $20 merchandise from Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies
(6) and (7) 50% transaxle service labor discount from The Gear Daddies (FF and CFF)
Thank you, Phil and Sarah (who has also served as EWC pointskeeper).
Also, many thanks (and congratulations!) to Joe Fisher for recruiting such a nice field for the 2007 EWC series finale.
I'll be home attaching parts to my (soon to be rebuilt) Lola. For those who will be at Mid-Ohio, have a fast and safe weekend.

I will be there in FF also. I had to wait to see if I could get half of friday off and monday off from work for driving time to get to the track. I didnt pre registar but I will definitly be there! Looking forward to racing at mid-ohio since I have never raced there.
See ya at the track
Andrew Genkinger
I will be there as well, I don't see my name listed but I see my dad's
Tim Piontek (VanCourt) FF Car #58
Steve Piontek (The old man) FF Car #51
That's great news we are now up to 16 FF and 6 Club Fords for a 22 car field (I updated the list). Thanks everyone including the sponsors and the de facto commissioner for making this a success.
Joe
Unfortunately I will miss Mid-Ohio, the first EWC extravaganza of '07 that I will not be running. Work has intervened, sad to say. I want to wish everyone running a great race weekend and thank the de facto commissioner for promoting and organizing the EWC. I will. of course, be checking Apex for results and descriptions of all the antics and battles!
Sorry to say I won't be at M-O this weekend -- In doing a final nut and bolt check last evening, I discovered that the stud for attaching the front of the oil pan to the chassis in the DB-1 was missing. I've got another stud, but the oil pan is stripped -- I'm in the process of getting the oil pan ready for a heli-coil and won't have it back together in time - I'm a one-man show working out of my garage.
I was looking forward to doing an EWC event but it'll have to wait until another time. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
It was a wet one chuck!! Qualifying on saturday was half wet half dry track. Too wet for slicks and not wet enough for rains. The track dried out by the time session 2 or 3 qualifying was done. When we were gridded to go out for the first race everybody was on slicks and then it starts raining when we pull out on pace lap. It was a interesting first 3 laps or so. Seems like there was always a person spinning in front of me or somebody off track at each corner! It dried out after about 4-6 laps and we finished on a dry track.
Sunday you can pretty much say we had boat races. There was small rivers going across the track and it was raining pretty good for qualifying and the race. I finished 4th on sat and 3rd on sun. Kolthoff won on both days. I dont have my results sheets with me so I cant think right off hand who placed where...........Thanks again to Lindstrand Motorsports for thier support even though they didnt make it down!
Andrew
Andrew - Congratulations! Great finishes in fast company. I am getting DVD made of RA and will send it to you or give it to you next time I see you. Great job, man!
Allen
I am pretty sure I will make it up to RA for the MSCC races. So we can have another wheel to wheel battle! Hopefully the weather is the same up there like we had last time..........
Andrew
I am going to have to go try to find some serious speed before that weekend!
Can't wait to run again. I will do my best to keep up with you and take more video. ;-)
I'm going to be running (I think) a Miata as well as my Ford. It'll be my first time in the SM class. I plan to bring that car to Texas eventually so I have something to do in the winter besides count the deer in my front yard.

Good job Andrew, glad to see you back out again.
Any word on the CFF battle?
I would think a CFF might be a good car to have in the rain at M-O

Dave Harmison qualified first in CFF on Saturday, and I was second. On lap one, he spun at the end of the back straight, and I got through and eventually won. Dave was contacted after the spin and had something like three-quarters of an inch of rear toe out which made the rest of the race a handful for him. From memory, I think Joe Fisher was second, and then either Dave or Brad Hayes third.
Qualifying on Sunday was wet to say the least, though being on the right tires this time, I went 9 seconds quicker than I had in qualifying on Saturday. Dave was second overall and I was fifth. In the race, Dave half spun before thunder valley and I went by. A few laps later, I overcooked the end of the back straight and ended up in the gravel trap. Dave won, and I didn't look at the results to see where the others ended up.
It was great to see some cars that hadn't been to other EWC races. We had a good drawing/meeting Saturday afternoon and everyone got to meet each other. Some of them weren't aware of the EWC and hopefully will keep an eye out for EWC events. Unfortunately, I forgot to get any contact info for them to put them on the mail list
