Where should water temps be taken??

My car is currently configured to take water tempature reading from the bottom of the fill pot. Is this the best place or is there somewhere else it should be located. the fill pot has the return from the motor and the outlet to the radiators, so it is water coming out of the motor. It makes sense this would be the best spot, but just making sure. Some things on this car where not right after a good going through.
