    Default Who Will Win 06'

It's that time of year again, the SCCA National season is over and it's time to make the picks for the 2006 Formula Ford National Championship at Heartland Park. Lots of questions to be answered, is there a home track advantage? Will it rain? What will running two qualifying sessions with F-500 do to the grid? Who will be spending too much time at Baby Dolls and not thinking about running more rebound in the front?

Entry list is here, http://www.dlbracing.com/clubs/scca/...ventID=2102#FF over
35 cars are entered with a interesting mix of chassis and new faces should make this a interesting runoffs! (It should be noted that FF is so far the second biggest formula group entry list behind FV this year) -Dave

Geez Dave, thanks for the jinx. Right now Kephart is the man as he has at least a second on everyone that has been on the track. I just want to get thru turn 1 on the first lap.

Jinx...no way Cliff, a lot of serious scientific research went into that pick! I hear ya on the getting thru T1.

Mike, thanks I didn't really miss driving my old car until I was at Elkhart Lake a couple of weeks ago working on the Pro Mazda... who knows, I might get the urge again and buy a Club Ford or something next year Oh by the way Mike, my sleeper pick last year won..

I'm going to wade in with a real dark horse who is probably not on peoples radar. Steve Maxwell is a NE driver who I think has the wherewithall to most certainly contend for a spot on the podium. He's fast and has youth on his side. Also, if memory serves, he may have one of Justin Pritchards winning Pipers underneath him. Of course the car did get balled up at Pocono in Aug, but if everything comes back together as new, I'd wouldn't lay odds against him.

    Greg,
Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate your rooting for me. I just would like to clarify for a second if I may. The Piper didn't really get balled up. Balled up would imply that the chassis was bent. It was not. Don Sievenpiper recieved the bare chassis and immediately put it on his flat table, and, guess what, it jigged up perfectly. The only damage was to the roll hoop, which, was, not even deformed. The roll hoop was dented and ground down but not at all out of shape on any axis. The rest is just bolt on stuff like a-arms and such.

As for the Runoffs, the Piper and I are going. I am very much looking foreward to racing and representing well all of the people and companies who have helped me get there. I also look foreward to meeting a bunch of people from this site.

    Steve:

While you were looking up the skirts of the pretty nurses at the hospital, there was a bunch of us helping Gibby work on your car. Gibby did all the work to take off the damaged rear corner. Once that was off, the car was loaded on to your trailer.

Tom Schwietz was there as well and said that he had all the suspension pieces to get your car ready for Sunday's race. The only thing that killed this idea, was the dented and scrapped roll hoop. In hindsight I'm not even sure that you would have done the second race even if the car got fixed then and there.

Anyway I am glad that it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and we will be routing for you and the others from NED to do well.

    Thanks John,
I think the soreness from the "incident" was enough to keep me out of the car for Sunday's race. But at the time I may have just done it! I appreciate your rooting for me and I'll do my best to bring the FF National Championship back to the NE.

    BTW, rain will only help.

    John:

No not the Royale, but the picture that is in the mag is of the Swift and it looks like you're doing some trimming of the track with your belly pan. Lots of grip bursting from the LR as well.

Actually a real nice shot of the car / driver in action.

Default 06 Runoffs who will win

John -I think you know what I mean. Larue does not even own a FF right now.It never ceases to amaze me. You are the current champion you will always have my respect and I believe you are the only person that can have a repeat win. So good luck.I hope to be a little lighter and more competitive by the Runoffs.A DB6 is a excellent car for this track in my opinion and you have proven yours is quick.See you there.
