Rumor has it that John Gaither sat on the CF pole twice last weekend at Savannah and won twice..... after about a 30 year layoff. And there were other cars in the field.
Congrats!

Congrats!
A total of 8 FF of various year - manufacture - & tire compounds had some great racing. It was a pleasure to meet John and all the others drivers this past weekend.
Joe Riley
It was a gas!
Great battles with Joe, Mark, CC, Eye and others - including those pesky F500's. Saturday was especially intense. I had forgotten what hard work this FF thing can be - especially in 1 and 2.
JG
I was especially lucky to be joined by Jim Brookshire ('76 FV Champ and able FF driver) and his son James. I hadn't seen either in 20 years or so & we had a great time - even changed gears on Sunday morning before qualifying! Jim and I agreed that the older we got the faster we were.

As Co-Crew Chief for John's triumphant return this past weekend, I'd like to thank the following sponsors without whom the weekend wouldn't have happened: Depends undergarments, Geritol, Viagra & Wilkinson's Memory Aid tablets .
All kidding aside, JG drove a couple of great races. When he got out of the car on Sunday he had a grin like an 18 year old who just got through driver's school. He even has a new victory dance (well, it's really a 5 inch off the ground side kick) that had everyone in impound impressed.
A few things you realize after listening to a couple of veterans rehash the history of SCCA open-wheeled racing for a weekend: Harvey Templeton and Ed Zink were two of the Einsteins (or DaVincis) of the racing world....at any level. Qualifying for the Runoffs "back in the day" was an accomplishment that few can appreciate today. And, lastly, most people you forge freindships with through racing are some of the most solid people around.
James
PS - Hats off to the Alabama & Buccaneer Regions (and their workers) - Time and again, Roebling Road is about as good as it gets for smoothly run and enjoyable race weekends.
