You all have no idea how frustrated I am with the problems we are having on the forums lately with log-in issues. I honestly believe that most, if not all of these problems are stemming from Microsoft's intention to think for the entire planet and the default settings that are now being supplied for securities on Internet Explorer browsers.

What this means is that the problems are NOT on the side of the site or the server, but rather on the side of the user. Older browsers without this type of strict security setting are still performing perfectly.

Please, make sure you have done all of the following to insure that your forum stay is a pleasant one...

First, clear ALL histories and browser cache in whatever browser you are using. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT so as to not use any of the old site information that your browser has already stored for future use.

Next, make sure you have completely cleared all of the old cookies from the forums from your browser by going here: http://www.formula1600.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=my_profile and clicking the link that says, "Delete All Cookies Set by This Forum"

Next, please make sure your IE browser settings are set to allow the cookies used by this forum for log-in. Follow these instructions:

Go to: Tools/Internet Options
Go to: Privacy (tab)
Default is medium (restrictive)
Set to low.

OR

Go to Tools/Internet Options
Go to: Trusted Sites
Go to Sites (button)
Enter: http://www.f2000.com and/or http://formula1600.com

IF all else fails, please try something for me. Go directly to the forums, using the link provided below:
http://www.formula1600.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

This is a direct link and will bypass any and all frames and target links used for the site. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A LAST RESORT. If this does not work, my suggestions and support have run dry. Please let me know if ANY of these things work for you, and don't forget to tell me what you did to get it to function correctly.

Gents;
This worked for me way back in September. I have since updated my browser and I don't need to do it anymore:

Here is one way to fix the login problem some of you are having (it worked for me and others):
Here is what just worked for me:
GOTO TOOLS
GOTO Internet Options
GOTO PRIVACY
GOTO ADVANCED
Make sure you check "Override Automatic Cookie Handling"

There has also been success with IE6+ with this direction...

Tools -> Internet Options Privacy Tab
Click "Advanced"

Ensure settings are the following:
-> "Override automatic cookie handling" - CHECKED
-> First party Cookies: ACCEPT - selected
-> Third-party Cookies: BLOCK - selected
-> "Always allow session cookies" - user discretion

This allows the UBB.classicâ„¢ software to work as designed while still blocking potentially malicious third-party cookies.

I just read a comment made by an administrator of the InfoPop UBB Community forums stating that UBB Classic (which is what we use) has massive difficulty with UBBs that are within framesets because of IE's new security "features" and the misinterpretation of forum cookies not being related to the main site and page.

You have no idea how irritated I am right now...

Doug, I just want to thank you again for building this site and taking the time to deal with all the "issues"! We all owe you a huge debt of gratititude! -Dave

P.S. the one thing I really like is the constant great speed of this site compared to the EZboard sites

If all else fails . . . you might try favoriting the login page and going directly to it in order to login. This is what I do with IE6 (with the latested updates). It works fine. In fact it is the only approach that has worked despite trying the previous suggestions (I haven't tried the latest ones). However, if I first go to the forums and then try to login I keep getting sent back to the non logged in forum page. I can even go first to the forums without logging in and then if I want to post I click on the login page favorite, login, and am "good to post". Dick R.

Those are almost always browser cache and cookie issues still hanging around from the other domain name. A clear of all of your histories and a blast to the cookies files and things should function correctly.

Being computer illiterate, my nephew set me up to use Mozilla as my browser. Haven't had a problem logging in since I no longer use IE.

This logon problem is strange. I did not have to do anything to stay logged on to F2000.com on my new Windows XP Home computer, but I have issues with formula1600.com.

I also noticed that now, after adding F2000.com and formula1600.com to my trusted sites I am not logged on when I am on the initial formula1600.com page, but when I click on a forum subsection or message, I am suddinly logged on.

I also noticed from the IE Privacy Report that it was bloccking http://63.144.24.189/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi.
Pinging formula1600.com showed that this is 63.144.24.189, so I added it as a trusted site as well, but it made no difference with the logon issue.

Anyway, I am OK for now as I am logged on when I need to be.

Please, also make sure you are logging into this site as formula1600.com and NOT ff1600.com. The cookies are not the same and WILL NOT work!

I think the problem may be with Windows XP. I have XP at the office and encounter many more problems with this site as compared to my home computer (win95).
I've just learned to live with it.
Love this site! Thanks Doug.

Mike,
I think your security settings at work are more likely the problem. I have XP at home and Win98 on my laptop. After adjusting the security/privacy settings in IE6.0, I don't have any problems.

I've recently started using the Mozilla web browser. It has some nice built in security features and is nice to use once you get the settings were you want them.

I changed my security settings to the minimum at work and still have issues with this site (but not F2000).
Could it be that my company's ISP is the issue and not my actual computer itself? (And yes, I am a computer dummy)

Mike,
When at work, right-click on the bookmark and select properties. Make sure it says "formula1600.com". If it doesn't, delete it and all the cookies as Doug outlined above. After you've done all that, type in www.formula1600.com then add it to your favorites.

If that doesn't work, do like Heapcoup and Kodiak did in the 2nd and 3rd response.

If it STILL doesn't work, go to http://www.mozilla.org/ and download version 1.2.1 (on the right side of the page. If you need IE for general work stuff, don't allow Mozilla to be your default web browser but add the desktop icon.

Thanks to this thread, I finally got login sorted out. FYI, my problems started when I installed a new internet security package, McAfee Interent Security 5.0. No doubt it changed some browser (IE6) settings that triggered the login problems. Now on to the next snafu due to McAfee. Me thinks the cure is worse than the disease. May all all hackers and virus authors burn in hell.
