    Default Front Mounted Oil Pump Plumbing

    Hi Folks,

    I'm finally getting around to plumbing my Mallock (ex - Ray Mallock F3/ and My dad's FB) with the hopes of getting it on track this year. Engine is a brand new 1600 cc Ford Crossflow on new Lotus T/C block, Lotus T/C stroke steel crank, 83.5 CP pistons, etc.

    I would appreciate a quick review of my plumbing assumptions for a new front mounted oil pump installation. See image below.

    Do I have the ports on the pump correct?

    Yeah, I’m thinking that you want to have your oil filter between the pump and the engine inlet. You want to filter out any particles before it enters the engine rather than after.

    Alex:

    Consider the engine as the sole source of metal debris and contaminants. And those contaminants and debris accumulate at the lowest point, the dry sump pan.

    The last thing you want is to introduce unfiltered oil into your pump, to SAVE it as well.

    Do you yourself a favour, and delete the oil cooler. Not needed with current quality oils. You want the oil hot not cold.

    As most run synthetic oils. IIRC, the viscosity remains fairly uniform.

    Thanks for the feedback. I will be watching oil temps during initial testing and can make that decision as needed. I curtainly do not disagree with your premise.

    I actualy forgot that I have that same sketch that Jack Field sent to my dad in 71 in an old file folder. He also sent along some lovely BDD blueprints that I keep thinking I should frame and hang in my home office... It's probably as close as I'll get to a BDA/BDD...

    I will add an in-line filter/screen existing the tank as suggested.

    The Cosworth pump ports in that figure are different to the Titan front mount - Can any one confirm my port assumptions for the Titan pump?

    Does your oil pan not have a screen in it now? What oil pan?

    Yes, It does have a screen. It's a VD pan.
