I didn't think his scams could get any more obvious, and yet, there it is.

    South Carolina now, huh?

Possible? Jon has never owned a racecar in his life. He's maybe possessed a few through shady deals over the years.

It's shamelessly stolen (with 250% markup lol) from someone else's classified ad, as are most of his scams.

    Holy Crap!

    His latest, greatest idea?:
Advertise another’s car, add $114.5 to buy price, interest an unwitting buyer (< looks at red face in mirror >), buy it for $75, re-offer to trusting buyer at “the absolute ‘steal’ of *only* $150?”

How long can this go on?

Mike, great idea, and circling action. It’s all almost unbelievable, if not a black eye for racing and racers whenever it happens.

I try to live in a world where I trust everyone until they prove otherwise.

I barely want to live in a world where the exact opposite is the only prudent strategy.

It's been going on for decades, at least since the early '90s, possibly longer.

That's why it's important that his scams are exposed in every way possible, including here on Apexspeed. There are people that are desperate to get behind the wheel of a race car and will skip any due diligence and ignore the red flags. Hopefully a Google search will turn up the many threads here and prevent someone from being separated from his money.

Agreed, these things need calling out. While we all hate losing to Bad People, it still beats the hell out of joining them.

Pathetic treatment of others never equals a win.

he's not trying to sell the car, he's trying to sell 6 weekends / 12 races in the car. unclear if he owns it or has an arrangement with the owner or wants to find a sucker driver with $$$ first before then figuring out how to provide the car.

I assume the events are one of the vintage series..

I also try to assume trust is warranted, but sometimes it's not, and it's not easy to tell w/o verification.

The key is to verify before sending $ especially for something like a racecar.

Risk minimization can be accomplished various ways:
o have a trusted friend inspect and confirm its condition and value
o only buy from folks who have perfect reputation in this kind of transaction
o go see it yourself, meet the seller, and take it home with you
o do not pay the complete cost in advance - always leave some balance so the seller has a reason to be honest
o there are more, but basically use a lot of caution, especially in a cash transaction

I bought my 1st racecar (Autodynamics MK3 FV) with trailer in 1968 from a guy in NY who advertised in Speed-Sport News (later Autoweek). After a few phone conversations, we drove there, inspected it, verified that it ran, paid him $2K with a check, and towed it home.

I guarantee that he doesn't own the car. As Rock said, he just grabs someone else's photo and creates a scam around it. If a sucker ponies up $185K he'll then buy the car for $75K, rent it for $10K and pocket $100K. And someone just bought him an Indy Car. He only needs one sucker.
Fortunately, Racing Junk is on to him:

Thankfully, racing is bigger and better than such people.

But these things can and do leave black eyes on our sport, and it cannot help grid numbers when it does.

While looking at this situation, I found another similar advertisement on Race Cars Direct

    https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/De...ace-an-indycar

It has been reported to Race Cars Direct with a suggestion that they research the advertiser. If nothing else he sure is prolific and tenacious!

    !
Give me a lot of $ and I'll buy either a Dallara or GForce, your choice. You'll probably get to drive it some time, but maybe not. I promise.

    What could go wrong?

I know the actual owner of the car used in the ad. No affiliation to Mr. Lewis.
