    Default Ace of base layers.

10 bucks says maybe 3 people get the title.

Anyways, those of you who are required to wear 3 layers and have
A 3 layer suit, what do you do for a base layer?

A~ Still wear a fire retardant base.
B~ Wear something like a tighter fit shirt like other sports do.
    C~ Go commando
    D~ None of the above

The lectures about how you should always wear a fire retardant
    layer begins............now.

Was B - I used to wear the moisture wicking form fitting stuff and a Pyrotect suit that was like a horse blanket.

Now A - Have CarbonX under and a Sparco Hocotex suit. The combo is much cooler and I believe more protective.

My wife suggested I upgrade after the Grosjean incident.

I assume you're referring to the group Ace of Base and making a play on 'base layers' - the Ace being the best...

If it were up to my better half I'd be wearing 3 additional layers.
And yes the Ace was the best.

    Default base layer

SFI or FIA base layer, socks and balaclava and a 3 layer suit even on a 100F day at a sunny summer day at Thunderhill.
Spending any time in the burn ward at a trauma center is a pain in the skin.
For reference, try to look up Lorenzo Bandini, Kathy Rude, Eddie Sachs or Dave McDonald.

In my stupid years I just wore my street undies beneath my drivers suit.
Now it's nomex under my 3-layers of nomex.
Extra layers can also slow down or stave off race gas soaking through to your skin. Ask me how I know? 2nd degree chem burn on my upper back could have been ALOT worse with fewer layers.

My "Yoda", Bob Lybarger, would suit-up 30-45 minutes before getting in the car every session.
Said he would get used to it - even comfortable - before driving.
I thought he was crazy...why sweat any more than necessary?
Twenty years later and now I'm doing the same thing...guess he knew...sorry, Bob.

I use a 3 layer fire suite with carbon x underwear. Even on really hot days I don’t mind it. I was caught upside down in my car on fire once at Nelson Ledges and all I thought about was the balaclava I was wearing really didn’t cover the back of my neck that great as I could see an orange glow in the mirrors. Luckily there is a really great safety team at Nelson and they had the fire out before it got to me. Needless to say the balaclava I have now covers the back of my neck. I got really luckly, but another minute or two of the fire crew getting to me could have been worse.

Yes, It's really hot out in the sun. I hang it on a clothes hanger to dry out.
