Default oil to water heat exchanger

looking for recommendation(s) and source for a small oil to water heat exchanger for use on a Kent. something "thin" in one direction would be perfect for mounting in front of the engine....

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Suggest to take a look at the Laminova style coolers.

You see these on lots of cars. There can be a little trial-and-error involved in getting the correct size for your application, balancing heat transfer and resulting steady-state fluid temperatures.
So many assumptions in the calculations make a detailed analysis difficult.
(note even the supplier webpage declines to advise on size choice)

I believe DaveW uses an OE Ford spin on oil cooler that sandwiches between the filter housing and the filter.

That was with the Pinto engine. I now use one from C&R that Citation installed in 2008. It is the long aluminum piece below. The sandwich cooler was very effective on the Pinto and before that on the FF.

Numbers on the C&R heat exchanger are:
CB 6-26-08 (probably made by "CB" on that date)
    W.O. 65719-01

It's 15" long w/o the water fittings on each end which are 1.25" dia x 1.5" long. It's 2.75" wide x 1.5" thick, plus the 2 oil fittings on top near each end.

    Ian / Dan / Dave-

thanks guys, Dave's 2-liter design point helps a bunch with my initial guess on sizing!! my potential application is a basic frontal area (ie: drag) for hose routing nightmare trade
