    Default Clutch Pressure

    I've just purchased my first FF. I snapped my achillies last winter and I've lost a lot of muscle in my left leg as well as stability in my ankle. I'm a little concerned about the clutch pressure. I realize that I potentially won't be using the clutch a lot but what is the preferred way of reducing the necessary force to activate the clutch?

    I'm a little surprised that the clutch is as stiff as it is. I have two other 'street' cars with sport clutches and they don't take anywhere near the pressure as the FF does. Granted I have not actually run the clutch under driving conditions yet so that might help a little.

    After recovering from sciatica I had a similar issue. Climbing stairs really helped recovering strength in my legs.

    What size is your clutch master? If you have a 3/4" master, try a 0.700 master. The pedal travel will be a bit longer to displace the same fluid to move the slave the same distance but effort required will be less.

    What clutch pressure plate and disc are installed? If it's an F3 style clutch pressure plate, they can be stiff. There are softer PP springs available depending on the manufacturer. Perhaps follow up with the seller for info.

    I went down this road a few years ago and I asked for advice here on AS

    Bob Darcy responded with this information and it made a huge deference.

    A .875 slave will reduce force by ~26%
    Going to a .625 master will reduce force by ~30%
    Doing both reduces force by ~49%

    ...all with correspondingly longer travel, more progressive feel.
