    Default Packing for transport

How do you go about packing a small formula or sports racer, and all spare parts and body panels, before giving to a trucking company?

I suppose I could just try to find a service to take the whole trailer, with the car and parts. Might be expensive...

Or I could put it all in a small shipping container, or one of those big boxes from Pods or UPack.

Otherwise, how do you pack it up for putting on a truck? How do you pack the spare body panels (this is a sports racer). How are the dozens of boxes secured?

Here are photos from the trailer of what I'm dealing with. Plus a bunch of stuff from the shop, not shown.

It's too far to drive to pick it up (2,800 miles).

Yeah, there's a race car in there somewhere, I think! (I'm the buyer, I didn't do this packing.)

Dunnage bags. I have had more damage towing vehicles than racing them. Lots of blankets and dunnage bags.

I would be concerned that none of that would arrive without breakage. All that bodywork ought to be slathered in bubble wrap for instance, and placed such that the strongest part carries the load. Given the state of our roads, that's going to have a lot of rubs from all the bouncing along the way.

You might try hiring a delivery service - like the guys that long haul used cars with a dually and a goose trailer, and have them put some of the stuff in the back of the truck and pull the trailer. There are also guys that long-haul deliver big 5th wheel and tag trailers. I bet there are some companies in Elkhart Indiana where a lot of that's made.

If you can afford the time (figure a fly day and 5-6 road days) that might be cheapest, but you will still need to find a 1-way rental vehicle that you can pull a big-ball electric brake trailer with.

Other than that its a two week adventure vacation to see the USA.

There are lots of companies that use their trucks to run one-way deliveries of regular people's RV trailers (not just manufacture deliveries). I doubt they'd care what was in the trailer....
