    Default 1964 Ferrari 158 F1 car

    I’ve always thought the ‘64 158 was one of the prettiest cars ever. What did the little ducts in the sides of the nose feed air to? I found a photo that shows them having ducts and tubes behind them. Inboard shock cooling? The brakes are outboard, so not that.

    Don't know about the air ducts, but WTF is that guy doing? Looks perverted.

    This is from when they had the start where they had to run to the car. For a few races they tried a procedure where the mechanic had to "hike" the keys to the driver like the center in American football. He is practicing his stance.

    Doesn't the Barber museum have Big John's car? If so, might be worth asking the curator.

    Not much help, but it appears to me they feed into tubes through the aluminum panel that separates the radiator and oil tank from the driver and dampers, for cooling perhaps?

    Surtees was awesome on two and four. With the following five titles going to Team McLaren, it’s also easy to forget that John was indeed the first Can-Am champion.
