Excuse my ignorance, but what would it take to return the car to road racing spec?

Are the engines for CM the same spec as road racing (i.e. legal)?

Will I fit? I am 5'-10" and shrinking (in height, not weight) and weigh 202 lbs. Shoulders are a 44 jacket.

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Default Solo to Club Racing...

    Dan,

    Point by point responses:

To the best of my knowledge, a return to a bias tire Club Racing spec would be as follows:

    ~ Swap F/R springs (included)
    ~ Restore Ackerman/Track Rods (included)
~ Swap front roll bar (included)
    ~ Alignment (spec included).
~ Ride height is the same
~ Gearing swap of 13:38 fixed first to standard layshaft (included) as well as remaining gears.
    ~ Add mirrors (included).
    ~ Fire systems already installed.
    ~ Update belts.
    ~ Fuel port (if required).
    ~ Transponder (if required).

That is, nothing irreversible has been done to the car.

That stated, I have no knowledge of the Club Racing setup for either SCCA spec radial or Vintage tires (both of which are a mystery to me).

Yes, 100% identical to SCCA Club Racing Spec.

That stated, I seem recall some Vintage organization do not allow aluminum head and/or electronic ignitions (I could be mistaken on this point).

Yes you will fit as we are nearly identical in height/weight. I'm at a 46 regular jacket.

    Default 1985 Swift DB-1

Very nice DB-1! As a long time former DB-1 ('86) owner driver, to convert to road racing: may need different lower A arms to achieve needed negative camber front and rear for SCCA spec Hoosiers, OEM rear A arms were weak, will need transponder and new belts, springs as desired but probably 200-300 front and 300-450 rear (some drivers went stiffer), I always went .560 front anti sway, changing ride height can drastically change handling but depending on track, run as low as possible (others may disagree). I"m 5'10" 160 # and fit worked fine for me. Many DB-1s have modified slightly wider shoulder bars to accomodate wider shoulders than mine. Shift lever position crucial to allow access to reverse and reasonable 3-4 shifting. Pad the front dampers to rockers to protect shins in case of contact. Gearsets per track.... I probably forgot a lot. It's still a great FF.
