1970 Brabham BT29 Formula B. Ex-Alan Lader

OldRacingCars.com shows the history for Brabham BT29-35 as the Fred Opert/Bonfil Team entry for Alan Lader. Lader raced the car in the 1970 U.S./Canadian Formula B Continental Championship Series.

Lader began the 1970 SCCA Continental Championship Series in his 1969 Brabham BT29, chassis number BT29-9. However, starting at Road America in July, he upgraded to the newer 1970 BT29, chassis number BT29-35. Lader went on to win at Mosport and Brainerd with BT29-35, as well as finish on the podium multiple times thereafter on his way to finishing second in the 1970 SCCA Continental Championship.

Fast forward to 2008. In August of 2008, Bobby Rahal purchased BT29-35 from David Romaine. It was at that time that Bobby helped fill in the blanks of the car’s early history after its successful 1970 Formula Continental season. According to Bobby’s comments at TenTenths, BT29-35 was restored by Alan Lader, then it went to Tony Senniger, then to David Romaine, and then to Bobby. Since then all owners are known and documented in the car’s current log book. Most recently the Brabham has been maintained in a private collection by a professional race car mechanic.

The Brabham is fitted with a Jennings 1600 c.c. Lotus twin cam and Hewland FT200 gearbox. It has polished nickel plated suspension, a Smiths tach and Momo steering wheel. It needs new seat belts, fluid changes, and general going over for a car that has been on display the past several years. Spares include an additional cockpit surround (body) and spare set of wheels.
