    Default Mk 8 Sideplates

I think I have a pair - I did own a couple of 51s 20+ years ago. One was renault box other hewland. I would need to see a picture to confirm these are correct. They are with an early VW case.

    Default Lotus sideplate

I will take them off the early VW case that they are on and take pictures tomorrow - looks like someone started a project and never got very far. $500 for the plates if they are ok.?

Ebay says these are forward facing. Mine are on the gearbox case so I need to check if they are truly rear facing as they look very similar

Those are the right configuration but don't fit a MK8/9. Good price though.

    Default Sideplates

OK mine are the same as the ebay set. They were bolted on the early case on the wrong sides.

John, it says they don't fit a mk 8/9 further down in the ad. Only a 4,5,6. I would think the attaching bolt pattern would be the same as the all use a VW case, must be the axle or bearing size.

The 4/5/6 use a single row ball bearing for the diff, the 8/9 use taper bearings. So the bearing pockets are different dimensions. This isn't the end of the world, a good machinist can sleeve the sidecovers to utilize the taper bearings quite easily.

Do you still have these side plates? I just saw your reply. These need to be rear facing to fit a Lotus 51. Currently my car has the Renault gearbox but I do have a Hewland. Where are you located. I'm in SW Michigan.

I sent you a PM but am unsure if it went through.

You responded to a post I had in July or August about side plates I was looking for. Do you still have them? The ones I purchased unfortunately were not for a MK8/9 so they do not work. I am still looking for these but they must fit this gearbox. Let me know. Thanks.

Can you clarify what you mean by don’t fit. Are you referring to the stub axle bearings as mentioned by Ethan, or is there some other issue. I ask because I am looking for the opposite (Brabham configuration) extended ear side plates for an F3 project. Todd

If you can't find them used, you may want to consider new ones sold by GMT Racing.

    Cheers, Joe
