    Default Lola 340/342 Throttle pedal

    As i get ever closer to actually getting my 340 prepped and track ready I find my legs are to short to adequately reach the pedals. Fabricating new brake and clutch pads will be easy enough, but doing the throttle pedal is going to be more work. I would like to pull the original pedal and put it in a box with the old brake and clutch pads so the car can easily be put back for the next driver who might perhaps be less vertically challenged than I.

    By any chance, does anyone have a spare 340/342 throttle pedal lying about? (I'd hate to try driving in Tony Orlando driving shoes!)

    Before you focus on the pedals, I'd take another look at your seating position. I'm 5'6" with a 29" inseam and I race a T340. On top of that, I prefer a position with some knee bend as I think it gives me better feel/modulation. If I can reach the pedals, just about anyone can reach the pedals. If you change the seating arrangement to a more reclined position while moving your butt forward, it will have several benefits. 1) You can reach the pedals 2) more forward weight can be beneficial to balance/handling 3) It will lower weight/mass of the driver. Let me know if you want detail pics of my seat.

    The car has been modified for D/SR and also at one point for a very large driver, so I am just trying to figure out the easiest way to make the car safely fit me with the current location of front roll hoop, pedals, gear shift, and still be able to see over the front which does not have a clear windscreen. Moving forward is definitely one option considered.

    Other ergonomic options considered thus far:

    1. Tony Orlando driving shoes
    2. leg stretch surgery
    3. sell car to 6 footer (or at least hire one for initial test)

    At this point I am really looking for a quick way to get the car to test session later this year to do a system check. Last log book entry was 1992 so the car has been dormant for years and with my time constraints, almost a 10 year project for me thus far. Somewhere in there I have become eligible for Social Security and Medicare benefits...

    My friend had made me a honeycomb 2" spacer that he had 10-32 inserts and I screwed to my pedal.

    Before that, I had some high-density foam that I basically wrapped to the pedal with Safety wire. I prefer the spacer much more!

    If you just want something quick for testing, lots of options are found online, depending on your exact configuration. A picture might give more clues for the audience:

    The previous owner of my car used 3 pieces of 3/4" plywood as spacers on the foot pads for the 3 pedals. The unique implementation put 2 T-Nuts in the first layer (nearest the pedal) and glued the other 2 pieces on top of that. My primary complaint was the glue wasn't dry when bolted together so the screws through the pedals where glued to the T-nuts.
    Something to think about, probably be better that platform racing boots.

    Please accept my apology in advance for this: I couldn't resist commenting (snarkily, I admit) that this driver weight loss approach may be easier, cheaper & longer lasting than a severe diet and exercise regimen...IF it really works!

    No problem, I've joked with my wife that one of the (many) former owners was Shaq.

    As it turns out, I am taking the suggestion to shorten the adjustable steering column, move the seat forward, which will require mods to the seat shell I've already made, as well as relocating the firebottle to the left sidepod. I'm hoping that the current front roll hoop will not have to be altered,but I think I will be ok there.

    Here's how this happens: You help a newbie with the car once or twice, then after a year of silence he calls you up, desperate to get rid of it because it's in pieces and he's moving back in with his ex-wife and needs to get rid of it fast. So he shot me a price and like a fool I thought, "Hell, I can get close to that out of the Hewland and the 10 Lola Super Vee wheels."

    I never sat in it before it was in my garage.

    And once you're in, YOU'RE IN!
