Default CV Bolts - Topic Help!

There was a thread on CV bolts and the various thoughts about torque, use of Nordlocs, and other ideas for keeping them tight. Can someone direct me to that please? Thanks in advance, John

This thread covers almost everything about bolted joints.

John, what are you specifically looking for?

On my VD, I torque both the inboard and outboard bolts to 20 ft-lbf. I use alloy socket head bolts on the inboard side with jet nuts but I'm switching to MS21045-5 because the hex is bigger (https://www.mcmaster.com/99638A300). The 5/16" jet nuts have a 3/8" hex which is extremely difficult to get a good "grab" with an open end wrench to torque. I ended up getting a 3/8" fuel line open end wrench and ground the opening to 3/8" but it still is difficult. I should add that my setup has the socket head on the outboard side of the joint with the nuts between the drive flange of the LD200 and the case, so no room for anything but an open end wrench. On the outboard I use 8M x 1.25 class 10.9 hex head bolts (https://www.mcmaster.com/91310A550), the only bolt that will fit the drive flange on the VD hub, with metric jet nuts from Pegasus (https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...p?Product=MJET). Previously, my old hubs had metric 8.8 bolts on the outboard side and those worked fine.

I use the metal gaskets from Primus (P/N 99D2017) and after repacking the tripods, and torqueing it will require one or two more tightness checks before everything stays tight and doesn't sling out grease. We check the tightness at the track at the end of each day of running, and I torque check before each event.

In 6 years of running the car, I've never had a CV bolt problem.

I modified a six point box end 3/8 to fit between the side of the box and over the jet nuts. On the left side I have to access the nuts from the back, on the right side from the front. The wrench will not slide over the nuts anywhere else. I am going to try the 20 ft/lbs and see how that works. I haven't been that high to this point. Thanks everyone!!
