My Anson is missing a section of linkage that I need to fabricate. One end is 1/2 od where it passes through the bellhousing. From there it will be 5/8 to the joint where it connects to the hockey stick. Should I use solid rod or round tube?

Read Carroll Smith's "Engineer to Win". Great pointers on this subject
Tube. Lighter, and it will oval just a smidge and provide a little force against the fastener.
CDS tubing (not welded). Depending on how well-supported the linkage is, any joints, etc, I'd suggest 12G wall thickness to reduce the chance of it bending.
Round tube, doubled surface area.
Helicopter main rotor masts are such for that reason.
