Default Why don't you make/post race videos?

In tandem with my "Which onboard camera system do you use?" poll; I want to know why you don't post race videos on a social media platform.

I love making racing videos almost as much as I love racing. I am a biased AV nerd; so help me out. Why don't you make &/or post racing videos to social media?

I tried to think of as many reasons to make categories for, but if I didn't get one put Other down and mention it in the thread.

Consider the "I like a low profile" to include situations where you make videos, but don't post. Mention it in the thread if that is the case.

That's one I didn't think of. I put every dumb mistake I have done (mospo wise not anything else, yikes) on Youtube. Thanks for clarifying.

It takes too long to edit and post something that's only semi-hackish looking. That said, I did get my son to edit and post a couple on my youtube

    Default I do

I post nearly all of my videos even the ones showing some really bonehead stuff by me. Others have been so generous through the years in helping me get up to speed, I felt it is something I can do to pay it forward. I'm still a big believer of "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."

Many times, I like to include most of the pace lap, ad this is a pretty important part of the race.

    Default I did

I had a GoPro Session 4 but it stopped working earlier this year. Now I have an AIM Smarty Camera 3, which hooks up nicely with the Mychron 5 2T that I use. The old GoPro editing software was pretty easy to use, but I have not figured out how to add title pages to the MP4 video that the Smarty 3 gives me. Could use some help with that? Then I will start posting races again.

I post up most of my races to my YouTube channel and it seems completely random what gets views and what doesn't, as in it doesn't seem related to production quality so I don't bother with multiple angles or narration anymore (after giving that a try last season)

Thanks Bill, I'll tell my son you said so! Maybe a little outside praise will get him to update my website too! It's been very expensive to raise a video editor/website designer and he doesn't go to work as often as I'd like!

I post all my race videos, assuming nothing's gone wrong with the camera. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsm...OUc2lhOY2BTOSQ

I'm dabbling more and more into editing them to clean up things like long yellow flags and the like.

    Default posting video

for me, it's the other side of the coin. why i post. posting is easy because i don't edit at all. the reason i take video is to see all my mistakes, after 45 years in open wheel racing i'm still looking for that one lap where i can say, "that was a great lap!'

Ahh yes, the extended boring periods. Those are a challenge to clean up. It doesn't work for everyone, but I added GTA4 and 5 commercials in during safety cars and black flagged sections. The best example I have made is below.

The next challenge is making a one car view entertaining for 30 minutes.

When I have a few moments to compile some thoughts I am going to start a thread for video production tips and discussions. My biggest tip is to record the live commentary (if there is any). If it's broadcast on the radio you can record in your own rig where it's quieter, otherwise, you need to record straight from the speakers in the paddock which isn't exactly quiet. That said, the local commentary can be sparse in most situations. Mid Ohio runs two commentators at different parts of the track; so that's been the best for me so far. PIRC and Gingerman barely said anything for me at least.

    Default Track feeds

With Super Tour events now having commentary, multiple cameras and more added to the live stream, this may become possible more often. This video was from a vintage event last fall. I like the idea of getting the audio, maybe just roll the windows up in the tow vehicle to record track radio.

I started uploading videos so I could easily pull them up on my phone on a track walk, and just have as easy to get to reference when discussing a line thru a corner. I was happy people had posted them in a similar car so I could get familiar with a new track. Now I try to just post ones that have tight racing and edit the 360 video to make it exciting.

I agree as well, I post most of my videos when I remember to turn the camera on. My son used to take care of the video responsibilities, he's now grow up and has his own hobbies. I don't always remember to charge the batteries, mount the camera, etc. when there's more important things to due on the car prior to going out to grid. Guess I need to recruit someone to help with the video work in the future.
