    Default Blown PFM muffler options

    Mates,

Yesterday I was looking over my car, trying to figure out how to drain the water for the winter if ai don’t race again this year (how do you? Can’t suck it out from the radiator cap area…) when I discovered my muffler blew out at Road America at the VSCDA races.

should I just replace it with the same muffler, or is there a better option? Relatedly, I am giving some thought to having the engine ported per the new SCCA rule- if I get the motor street ported, will muffler blow outs become more common?

I’ll try posting the pic. Thanks in advance!

exactly how old is this muffler? I never saw that in 5000 miles. The interior packing would be gone long before that I'd imagine. The standard PFM mufflers are what I'd stick with - they come with the correct flanges and allow for double muffler config as needed for certain tracks.

No idea how old it is. I just bought the car a few months ago.

Stick with the stock muffler. It fits and does the job. They occasionally have the problem yours does but it's relatively rare. As Mikey stated the packing does get blown out

the stock mufflers are crap, i would convert over to a phase 9 3" unit at the back location. I have done this on a couple of PFM's and run around 100db with no power loss or gain. I have run these for years without a problem. Gets rid of 2 @#$ mufflers and reduces the expense. Reno Rennsport can make them in Sparks NV.
