    Default Trailers

    Hey guys.

We are still shopping trailers. What I want is a small, low profile, light weight trailer. I've looked at all sorts of low profile aluminum trailer, then I found https://ironhorsetrailers.com/2-bike...cycle-trailer/

    What do you all think?

Tools, rain tires etc will go in the truck.

    Every trailer is a compromise.
This one is fairly light and looks pretty aero.

    That said,
I'd double check your length vs the 12'6" 'Body Length' to make sure you have enough interior length - especially considering the axle on that trailer looks a little far forward - you may not have enough 'positioning' room and/or have to load the car backwards to get a good tongue weight.
You won't have good access to the front end of the trailer with the car in there, so front restraint might be a bit of a pain.
With a 'short' rear door, you will need some type of helper ramps for both approach and breakover.
For me, especially since our tow vehicle is a DD SUV, loading everything besides the car in the tow vehicle would quickly get tiresome.

I'm looking into the widebody trailer because it's 13.6 long? on the interior length. Will call tomorrow to double check but if it's not an arm and a leg like other trailers I may order one.

jdr17, I know what you mean about having a trailer thats a little small and you have to carry everything in the back of my truck.

I had been concentrating on the width of the tailgate opening an didn't realize the overall width of the wide body is only 2" larger than the two motorcycle trailer. The wide body is the way to go, if it doesn't cost too much.

Very nice, hard to find trailers. Not inexpensive.

Be sure to consider axle location and tongue weight with your car loaded. Floaty trailers are not fun!

Default Thank you - thank you!

    Lynn,

I have been searching for a trailer for my wide-body Corvette. Its fenders 80" wide.
You have sufficiently "narrowed" my search to their Dual-Axle version.

Best of luck in your purchase - and again thanks!

    Cheers - Jim

    Default PRI Show

Lynn, if you are heading to the PRI Show in Dec, there are a lot of trailer suppliers displaying their wares in the Lucas Stadium. We have seen some interesting trailers there. If you are planning to hit the show, and can wait that long prior to purchase, you might want to do some research there. Good Luck.

Lynn- I have a Trailer from Montrose which likely fits your requirements. And, you can customize it dimensionally. I had them make mine about 4" narrower than their standard width.

I see you're in St. Louis, as am I. I would be happy to show you the trailer in person, if interested.

I'm at work and and blocked from adding a photo, but found a previous thread where I had posted a picture.

Gary, Don't you have to have a motorsports business to get into PRI?

Steve, I would like to see your trailer, but I would like to see the Mallock even more.

Just following up to my own and DSR3's posts after seeing the pic of Steve's Montrose and this video of the widebody: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5Z7R1t51u4

I'd really double check the length available and find out the position of the axle to do some calcs before buying.

My single axle is a 12' box + ~3' v nose and I have to load the car really far forward to get to 10%+ tongue weight.

Here's a couple pics to (kind of) show interior placement and relative axle location.

PS: That the double axle Montrose is only ~1500 lb is impressive, my (steel frame) single axle measured in at 1623 empty!

As SCCA members, we are eligible to attend PRI. Pre-registration is required to attend. SCCA normally has a booth at the show.
