Default Spa mirror flange set screw

I think I'm venting more than I am asking a question.

I removed my mirrors to add a touch of epoxy to keep the glass from falling out and to give the assembly a coat of paint. The hex key hole had become stripped in one of the base set screws. Fortunately, I was able to get the set screw out before I used up my weeks allotment of 'sh&*s' and 'goll d#@mits'.

Looking for a replacement at the hardware store, I narrowed down the size to a 1/2" - 20 x 3/8". Of course they did not have what I needed. A trip to Fastenal was next where they confirmed the size from the damaged screw. I ordered two right away at $ 1.25 each.

With the new set screw I was able to get about two to three turns into the mirror base before there was resistance. I stopped before I damaged the threads or cracked the base.

I know I can purchase what I need from a vendor of these mirrors, but you'll use a little imagination to get to the price. It is what it is.

Again, venting in the form of a question. Is the size of the set screw that specific to the mirror assembly?

    Thanks!
    Andy

Did the damaged set screw orc up the threads in the base? Run a 1/2X20 bottoming tap up the base (if you don't one it might be cheaper to buy a new base).
My go to when I don't have the correct tap is to take a comparable bolt and cut 3 or 4 slots up the bolt with a Dremel cut off wheel to make a clean out tap.

    1/2-20 Bottoming Tap
    $8.87 Amazon, $9.20 Home Depot
Just a couple examples from Bing Search.

dumb question; are you sure it's not metric?

    From google search...

Are M10 and 3/8 the same?

That said, they are very close, the 3/8" bolt is about 0.019" smaller and the pitch's are very close so the 3/8 -16 bolt will thread in the 10mm x 1.5 but the 10 x 1.5 bolt will not fit the 3/8

the M12 1.75 is closest to 1/2" bolt

Default Spa mirror flange set screw

Thanks to all for the input.
It may very well be metric. Fastenal is down the street and I'll have them check it again with a thread guage. It would be very close match.

I will reluctantly spend the $ 25.00(w/shipping) for the piece if necessary, but naturally will feel like I got screwed(that was intentional). I'll report back with the result.

    Thanks!

Been wrong before but I have a hard time believing that anything SPA would not be metric
