I always enjoyed his shows on the old SPEED network. The only episode I can remember in particular was one where he was trying to get a Ferrari 166 F2 car running right for a vintage run and had a terrible misfire. Started canvasing the paddock for some obscure 10mm spark plugs (there were none.) Failing, he scrounged some lighter fluid and a propane torch, then a wire brush. That didn't work so he was disappointed the rest of the show.

(The lighter fluid trick never worked for me either...)

Recall his shows on Speed - he will be missed as Speed has been missed.

So many great clips with Alain, but the spitfire one is probably one of my favorites:

One of the best series on TV were the ones where he tested a number of different cars from several generations. Wish any of the channels would rebroadcast these, far superior to some morons racing on the street!

I worked with him a bit in the UK and over here on his short lived Can Am effort in 78 with the "British Stamps " Lola DFV. The stories that surrounded him (mostly true) were from a different generation of sportsmen. 200+ MPH testing the LM Lola on the M4 out of London between interchanges........etc etc.
    What a guy
