Don't let it being in Canada hinder you - import export is easy, and not terribly expensive. If I can do it......

IIRC, the RF97 has been recommended as being a VERY good car, IF you can fit in it. The driver's compartment has been noted as being small relative to previous and later VD's.

I tried calling a broker a week ago about another car in Canada. They wanted my EPA permit, racing license, race schedule, specific pictures of the car and TAXES. Not a terrible amount of information to come up with, but between the broker (1,500) and transport (2,500), it put me over my limit and out of time on that car auction.
It might be cheaper and easier for someone else who does this often, but for me it’s a bit too much.

However, it’s such a nice car and good deal that I can’t help thinking about it!

Get a better broker. I'm not saying it is exactly the same, but I brought a car in from the US to Canada in December. I am going to make a few assumptions here:

- You have a car that can tow a small open trailer
- You have access to at the least a small, single axle trailer that you can lash the car down to
- You are interested in a road trip to Drummondville. Alternatively, bargain to have the seller meet you on the Canadian side of the border. You can do this for a lot less than US$2500
- The car has a logbook, and most importantly, a chassis tag. Do NOT attempt to import a car without the tag - for all intents and purposes, customs will treat the tag as the VIN number
- You can figure out what crossing the US uses to import vehicles. For example, going the other way, the only crossing that allows vehicle imports is Queenston. Your broker should be able to tell you
- My broker cost less than C$700, and was able to prepare and file all of the paperwork for me on time
- You may be eligible for the US$10,000 value exemption. I've read about it a bit, looks like you would only pay provincial sales tax on the balance

IIRC, there was a post on Apex about this very process over the last 3-4 months - find it!
