For Sale 2001 Mygale Pinto FC for sale

2001 Mygale SJ 01 Formula Continental
    Serial number US2001 01
    Ford 2.0 liter Pinto engine
    Hewland LD200 transaxle
    Located near Madison, WI
    $20,000

I bought this car in 2017 and have raced it 10 times in vintage events, all at Road America. It is fast, has been dead reliable and has not had any crash damage. On top of that, it's a really good looking car!

Belts are good through 2022, I replaced the fuel cell foam last summer and had the shocks rebuilt by Penske in 2019, dyno sheets are included.

The only issue is the Pi dash system is a bit erratic and sometimes will flash screens while driving – you can press the button to cycle back through screens and see anything you need to. I chose to ignore it and just drive the car, I searched briefly for a loose ground wire or bad connection and couldn’t find anything. Someone with a greater interest in electronics than me can solve it.

The history of this car is pretty well documented in earlier ApexSpeed posts, I've pasted some of that information below. By all accounts, this car now has a total of 20 race weekends on it since it was new in 2001. The inside of the gearbox is spotless and the car is generally in great shape.

I raced it last at the July 2021 Brian Redman / Weather Tech International Challenge event and finished on the podium both days – 2nd on Saturday behind some guy named Geoff Brabham and 3rd on Sunday behind him and another FB. Fastest time of the weekend for me was a 2:19.3, which was the best time I ever recorded in the car. The engine is still pulling well, I have changed the oil and adjusted the valves religiously during my ownership. I am confident you could drive the car next week without issues.

Below is some history on the car cut and pasted from an earlier ApexSpeed post – these aren’t my words but I have no reason to doubt them having had a great transaction with the previous seller and success with the car in the 5 years I’ve owned it.

"This car and its sister car were purchased by Don Jones in fall of 2004. The two 2001 Mygales had previously been owned by DTSP who raced the sister car (not this car) at 1 pro event in 2001 (Homestead) where a fire broke out in the engine compartment. After acquiring both cars, Don sold the sister car as a “project” and the car that I now have for sale was driven by Clark Cambern for 3-4 pro weekends in 2007. It had a new Quicksilver engine which Sandy assured Clark Cambern was a strong national engine. According to Clark’s post at the time they were the fastest pinto at all the pro races they entered and when given permission to test a lightened flywheel he was able to start passing zetecs.
Don Jones sold the car to Tony Arens who intended to field a pro team with his son at the wheel. His son got the opportunity to pursue another racing opportunity after Tony had expended some amount of effort getting the car ready. As represented by Tony when I was purchasing the car he replaced all engine bearings with the exact same part number that Quicksilver had used when they initially built the engine. The cylinders were in perfect shape. He took top end completely apart and checked valve guides, valves, springs, etc. He did a very very light polish on the valve seats. He also sent the Penske shocks out for rebuild at that time.
When we bought the car in 2012, I disassembled and inspected the engine and after consulting with Quicksilver Race Engines, sent the head to them to go through. It has the updated cam and lightened flywheel. Eric Langbein then went through the car with us at his shop in Annapolis looking for and addressing any issues and doing our initial setup.
We raced 6 race weekends in 2011 with FRCCA. Generally 6-8 FC’s fields. The car was much stronger than our competitors particularly on bigger tracks. My son then moved out of the country for work and the car has not raced since then.
During the period of inactivity, I have been careful about starting it, bringing it up to temperature regularly including short trips around our 3 mile neighborhood when I’m feeling adventurous. Engine starts and runs well, sounds good and leak down is minimal. No issues with brakes, clutch, transmission, etc."

Feel free to PM or post here with any questions. Thanks, Steve

I apologize for the upside down pictures, feel free to enlighten me if there's an easy way to correct.

I remember seeing this car when Don had it for sale several years ago. Really well engineered cars. In my opinion, well ahead of the VDs.
