    Default Muffler Stainless Steel Wool

I'm trying to build a muffler for a Swift Continental. I have not been able to find one that fits the space gracefully. I understand stainless steel can be used instead of fiberglass in a "glass pack" type of muffler. I would like some help deciding what grade of stainless wool to use. Are there any thoughts regarding the performance, sound reduction, of this kind of muffler? I appreciate the help.

Coast Fab offers a muffler filler they call scrubble which is heavy strand steel wool. Lasts a long time

    Default muffler

And the Coast Fab mufflers work well for FF's and FC's.

I've used steel wool and ceramic mat from this place on Rx7s with some decent success and those run EGTs around 1800*. If you give them a call they can get you what you need for your application.

    Default Scrubble

Bob's comment about the "scrubble" is on point. Burns Stainless uses this material in some mufflers because it lasts longer than the fiberglass wrap. The scrubble looks like turnings from machining without the ultra sharp edges; easily handled without gloves. I'm pretty sure Burns sells it, as likely Coast Fab does too. As for sound reduction, call and ask; if I remember correctly, Burns claimed a few dB delta for the scrubble - it could have higher or lower, but lasted longer than the fiberglass...

Coast Fabrication was purchased by Clarendon Speciality Fasteners. Clarendon sold the muffler business to https://profabrication.com
