    Default Car Stand

    Gents;

    Has anyone considered a car stand made from 8020 2” extrusion?

    Rick -

    Depending on the spans involved - you might get by with the 1.5" extrusions - or the 1.5x2? They have a "tool" you can download on the webpage. Works pretty cool. Sad thing - they have discontinued their eBay Surplus store. That was always a bargain price. Maybe find some there still from individuals.

    BTW - Just ran 1500 pounds over 10 foot span - supported both ends - little difference with 2x2 or 1.5x3 (3" placed vertically). You might find 1.5x3.0 easier to find...Just sayin'.

    Tool located here : https://8020.net/deflection-calculator

    mikey's write up is a very good start too. Weight savings, ease of construction, etc.

    Cheers - Jim
    (don't forget to hit "Calculate Deflection" or it just sits there)
    When I used to fly Phantoms, I was called an AVIATOR.
    Now I race cars. So, am I now called a PAVIATOR?
