    I would probably make it 33 if I could get on the track before the first qualifying session. I had planned on going this year;

    Default Missing in action

I don't know about the rest of you but there seem to be a lot of drivers MIA .. especially those so vocal about spec tires and putting weight in ztec cars .... you got your bias ply tires that are super affordable plus only 2 sets allowed all week and added weight to the Ztec's Where oh where are all of those Pinto entrees ?????

    Here's a thought:

Spec tires may have brought out 32 entries instead of the usual 9. Just saying. Not a sermon.

There has been some push about the 35th and Indy is a 'destination'. Not sure Kansas would get the same numbers.
    Point taken though.

When I owned a Pinto I always pushed for changes we could make to the Pinto for reliability and parity - never ever suggested modifications to Zetec cars. Yeah, making the Zetecs add weight was surprising to me.

The spec tire is a good thing. $900 mounted balanced and taxed. Everyone baulked at the bias ply as first but with a few exceptions it has been a good tire. Not hearing complaints.

Whether it brings out Pintos or not we should keep a spec tire.

Default need a few more entries

My response was meant to get the drivers on the fence to jump in , not create opportunity to discuss open tire rule validity . Its done and I thought that would bring more cars out ,,, and yes 32 entries is awesome but lets see what happens next year at VIR . If we could get LaRue to consider letting the MZR motor into FC then we would have plenty of entries for this year and in the future to have our own race again .. Just thoughts .... lets not get too excited ... We are just a few short weeks before what looks to be one of best FC runoffs classes in many many years . I'm so stoked to part of it ....

    Default Pinto's

Robert, I think it would be safe to say that most of the top shelf driver and chassis combinations are Zetec powered and that might be a reason for the lack of Pinto powered entries.

Spec tires may have added a couple cars. No way is it the reason for the bigger number. It's a combination of the destination (Indy - SCCA numbers are up overall) and the excitement around the event that the guys on facebook and on here have been pushing.

No way did suddenly 20 guys say, "Spec tire"! I can enter the runoffs now!!

Remember - before the spec tire and weight - Laguna had 26+ entries at this point.

Just common sense replying... not a sermon either...

I haven't entered the Runoffs since 2013. Part of that reason was the "tire of the week" syndrome. And more than a few potential entrants have complained about having to buy, test, and run "the tire" to be competitive.

So while the spec tire may not be responsible for a majority of 2021 Indy Runoffs entrants, I'm positive it it made some think: now I can at least not have to worry about which tire is going to have an advantage. To me that's a pretty daggone big factor.

Because the spec tire is now required, I know I will be more likely to enter future Runoffs. This year my hip issues have prevented me from doing much racing. Hopefully next year those issues will be gone.

Personally, we are going DESPITE it being at Indy. The only track I would less want to race at on the eastern half of the country would be Daytona.

If we get 28 that actually show up and start, that will be a 250% increase on the 11 that started in 2020. That would be incredible!

I think that the spec tire achievement (it is a massive achievement) and the concentrated effort to grow and celebrate the class, has had a very significant effect on the perceptions of the class. Instead of a fragmented collection of individual racers with the full range of personal agendas, we now have a FC Group. There needs to be a sense of purpose and passion for the class. That group outlook is what is needed to convince people to invest in cars, engines, tires, etc. . While I am not yet passionate enough to invest in a weeks worth of private testing, I have invested in an engine rebuild, so we will now have a Runoffs engine that was freshened in the last decade. I am also selling a FC program for 2022. Ten months ago I did not see either of those occurrences on my horizon.

Still a long way to go but, awesome job, by all involved.

Actually, I'd prefer Daytona over Indy. The Indy track layout does not attract me at all.

I understand that. I just don't want to see my driver, or friends, spending 30 seconds per lap pack racing at 150 mph in a tube-frame formula car. I am just a wus I guess. I want a classic proper race track like the Glen, Road Atlanta, Road America, or VIR. Mid-Ohio was the best venue for a National Championship event that we could ever have ..... just too many people whining about having to park on the grass.

My personal opinion and not relevant to anything, other than that class growth is much more than the track. At the 2017 Runoffs at Indy, 14 FC cars started, so 28 would be a 200% increase.

    Dave and Greg
What do you guys dislike about Indy?
I personally really enjoyed the track (more so the FRP/Indycar layout than the layout SCCA used, but still).
It is a very good track for actual racing with multiple passing zones and has a good flow. I think Road America has more time at wot than Indy and if you factor it as a percentage of overall lap time Road Atlanta and VIR are likely in the same ballpark for % of the lap at wot.
Surprised about Mid Ohio, a very parade like track, specifically with wings.
To me, Sebring is a great track for a national championship...tricky surface to master, lots of varying speed corners, multiple passing zones, a challenging track.

Anyways, back on topic. I can't wait to see how the race turns out this year. I am anxious to get a 2 liter car and join the fun. I hope that those that have cars and are participating can keep the momentum up and find some common events next year to have quality grids, whether it be FRP or SCCA.

I don't like it because there are too many 90* corners and chicanes which I have never really enjoyed. And the fast corners are basically flat out. I have always enjoyed fast turns that are not flat out or at least take some balls to drive flat out. Just my preferences.

    Math good!

    Math bad!

But math aside, I couldn't agree more.

Whether you consider the Indy track to be the Holy Grail, or just another R-oval, whether because, or despite, that is where the 35th Anniversary race is. Looks like we are up to 34 entries.

One more week until the entry fee goes up. Who will be #35?
