Default ISO clean, turn key F500.

I’m new to F500 but have experience with FF in the 90’s. I currently autox and track a C7 corvette but want to step it up. I want something I can autox and time trials. RR is not out of the question once I get my feet wet.
I’m 6’0 and weight 210. Intend to get it down to 195. Willing to pay up to $15,000 for the right car w/spares. I’d rather spend $10k.
im looking at an Invader in Atlanta that I like but a little tight. I’ll be talking to Carl and trying on the car again soon, but I’ll hate to buy the first car I look at without seeing what else is out there, perhaps slightly larger cockpit. I live in Jacksonville Florida. But I’m willing to travel. Call or text 904 307 4661

    Thanks.

For $10k, you can get a very nice 2-stroke F500 with national level history. Depending on your body shape, the Invader, KBS and post-2002 Red Devil chassis may be tight for you, but many have been modified. I am 5'8" and race at 190-200 lbs. Shoulders have never been a problem for me, but I had to sell my 2007 Red Devil last year because my chest/gut got to the point where I could no longer comfortably steer the car. Scorpions and Novakars have larger cockpits.

My understanding is that Carl's car is nice, so you probably won't regret buying it. On thing to consider is the engine. It is very difficult to run competitively at nationals without a 593. If that's not part of your plan, then don't worry about it. The 494 is a great engine.

Many of the 2-stroke F500s have been converted to 4-stroke or auto-x only, so not that many really good 2-stroke cars ready to road race come up for sale. It may take a while to find the perfect car, but you will not have to compromise with your budget.

Thanks Cory for the advice. At this point I know just enough to be dangerous so any input is appreciated. It seems F500 is pretty much everything I need. Relatively low cost, reasonable maintenance, plenty fast, and I can move from autox to TT’s to road racing and back again. It would be nice to be able rent one to get a better feel.

Make sure the time trials group you run with accepts open wheel cars.

An F500 will net you FF lap times, for a lot less money.

Your description of the class is spot on. If you haven't done so already, join the F500/F-Mod Facebook group. Posting there would probably be your best path to finding a car to rent for AutoX. Cost should be very reasonable if the car is already running at the event. Many people share cars at AutoX events.
