Default for elecrically advanced custom lead help needed

    Here it goes.
I need to make custom lead from MY LDS4 GEMS display to USB in order to add and configure things on my display.
Display feed from Harness 12v power .PC USB comes off 5v power ( so i m short to keep display running as corrections are made)
I was thinking introducing 12v power into power to feed display and set up directional diode or step down resistor towards USB to reduce to 5v.

    any ideas?

You might check with Dave at Veracity Data about that, as he is a USB expert.

    How many amps?
There are 5V voltage regulator chips that can take 12V and provide a 5V output. Current is limiting parameter. Digikey, Mouser, etc.
