Default Buying an Ipass for Truck/RV and Trailer

    Howdy,

I havent had an Ipass for awhile and thus my account is "suspended" because there isnt an active transponder. They wont let me order one online for a truck/Trailer combo and told me I need to go to a Road Ranger.

Figured I would pick it up on the way to BHF this summer for later races but... wanted to start the process now...
This one appears right on the way: Road Ranger 6070 Gardner St, South Beloit, IL 61080

Just a truck and a trailer. 4 axles total. Suggestions? Tips? Tricks? Or buy a car and it can detect axles? (thought I read that but dont believe it)

OR.... just violate the who way and pay upon return from the trip!?

    Thx

There is a workaround for the I-Pass - that I use. Its an app called "Fast Toll". It essentially tallies your tolls and then you go on line and pay once the trip is concluded. You choose how many axles or type of vehicle in the app as I recall.

You can also change your vehicle type in your account info. I simply change my vehicle type in my account on the days I am towing. That's literally all there is to it.

This is slightly off topic, but consider it a public service announcement on i-pass and towing -

I have an ipass registered to my 2-axle motorhome used to tow a double axle trailer. After reviewing my account several years ago, I noticed that randomly I would be charged the full semi rate. This would occur about 25% of the time. The difference in rate is significant. It was adding about $20 to the cost of a race weekend.

I would have to call and argue with them to get the charges reduced. It was a constant battle that I endured after every trip. It still happens to this day.

I would encourage everyone to actually review their i-pass charges. I suspect this is a common problem and the crooks of the tollway authority our steeling a lot of money from unaware ipass users.

    Thanks everyone!
Using an old account it says the account is suspended. And when I went to buy one (mind you I did online in Wisconsin), they said I can go to a Jewel or Road Ranger. Maybe I will just create a new account buy one for a car and modify it to a rv/trailer combo... They said they cant un-suspend it until I buy a new one but wouldnt sell me one....

I have used the methodology in the past where I just blew them all and paid online when I got home through the website... but thats unsettling for me. (Makes me twitch like sheldon) - I dont want to draw attention to a rig and ask to get pulled over.

Since there are no longer cash lanes open they do not pay any attention to vehicles going thru. They expect you to pay online and if you forget they will send you a bill....eventually and long after it has reached the maximum fine to go with the late payment

    Default Update

Ok, I took the easy route and just used a different email address under the domain I own.

I wasnt sure what to register the RV and trailer as but I chose this...

    RV4 axles, >= 10 tires - over to 7,000 lbs4467License Plate-mounted1$10.00
I didnt want to do truck/trailer because it sounds like semi.

Thanks for all the responses (public and private)

Perfect timing - I sent a request to EZPASS NY back in January for a special tag to use when I am towing. Nothing showed up so I called today. It was processed on March 12, so they said I should be seeing in 7 to 10 days....

with COVID they are running behind - I know some highways have service centers. Might be quicker that going on line.

    Default EAPass

I have 3 EZPasses. The one for the Motorhome is set up for it while towing my trailer. It is blue the others are white. Not sure what that means. Maybe blue ones are for towing.

You get a small discount when using the EZPass but the cost to cross the Hudson River towing a trailer is still crazy
